WORK SCHEDULE


  • 100% FTE – 40 hours per week
  • Day Shift – UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 07:00 – 16:00 (PST), Monday-Friday
  • POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Performing complex, senior-level, computer analysis, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance work on major, highly complex, system-wide, high-risk, high-impact, mission-critical telecommunication, and other department supported systems.
  • Planning, coordinating, and performing all maintenance activities and install and testing major units of a large telecommunication/video/computer system and/or telecommunication/video/data communication network.

    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine.  UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW).  ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You analyze, diagnose, and repair highly complex, multi-service telecommunications/video/computer/mobile system malfunctions or failures on same and/or wide-area telecommunication network systems.
  • You consult with stakeholders on the design of call routing and call flow scripting, and implement, test, and maintain resulting programming.
  • You lead, direct, and inspect for quality, the work of other telecommunications technical staff, contracted technical staff, and construction project personnel at all locations.
  • You analyze system logs and software tools, testing separate equipment to isolate, diagnose, and correct malfunctions.
  • You analyze software and firmware operation of communication systems to troubleshoot circuits, making adjustments, corrections, repairs, and replacing parts to component level.
  • You plan, coordinate, and perform all maintenance activities on a medical center-wide telecommunication/video/computer system and/or telecommunication/video/data communication network.
  • You review floor plans on remodel and building construction projects to make recommendations for corrections or additions.
  • You create and update maintenance records and department knowledge base systems.
  • You oversee preventive maintenance programs.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience as a Communications Technician 2 OR Equivalent education/experience.
  • Proficient experience in MS Word and Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of communication systems best practices, installation practices, safety practices, cable management, usage of hand tools, termination equipment, use of power tools, and ladder safety.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
  • The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours.  The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies.  This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.
  • Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
  • Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
  • The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
