WORK SCHEDULE


  • 100% FTE – 40 hours per week
  • Day Shift – UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 07:00 – 16:00 (PST), Monday-Friday
  • POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Performing complex troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and testing activities for telecommunication/video/computer/mobile and/or telecommunication/video/data communication network systems.
  • Designing, fabricating, and installing specialized interfaces, controls, or data communications equipment.
  • Completing complex installation projects.
  • Consulting with and advising departmental customers on the acquisition and use of telecommunications equipment.
  • Developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine.  UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW).  ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, assemble, install, configure, and test highly complex, multi-service, telecommunications system equipment.
  • You develop, implement, and perform preventive maintenance for assigned communication systems and associated equipment.
  • You confer with customers and supervisor to determine system problems and to fulfill service requirements.
  • You design and fabricate specialized interfaces, file transfers, data gathering, and processing apparatus for systems, control apparatus, or telecommunications equipment.
  • You design, construct, and install communications links between data terminals and data communications equipment such as terminals, work stations, printers, and computer ports.
  • You complete work orders and repair tickets for such work as resolving system problems, installing, connecting, moving, repairing, and programming telecommunication devices and systems.
  • You complete complex adds, moves, and changes such as moving entire departments, completing system upgrades, and adding major components to existing and new systems.
  • You use electronic test equipment to troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate equipment malfunction(s) to system, board, or component level.
  • You create and update maintenance records and department knowledge base systems.
  • You maintain all appropriate documentation on equipment and systems in department.
  • You consult, research solutions, and advise departmental customers on acquisition of new telecommunication equipment, providing design recommendations, equipment lists, project costs, programming, installation, testing, and training.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience as a Communications Technician 1 OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License to enable transportation of UW assets.
  • Proficient experience in MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of communication systems best practices, installation practices, safety practices, cable management, usage of hand tools, termination equipment, use of power tools, and ladder safety.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This classification is in a bargaining unit.
  • This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
  • The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours.  The work may be performed in either an office and medical center environment, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies.
  • This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.
  • Must have the ability to meet in person as directed by manager.
  • Because of the physically separated sites for UW Medicine, this position requires the ability to travel to alternative work locations as needed.
  • Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
  • ITS provides services to all UW Medicine organizations – HMC, UWMC-Montlake, UWMC-NW, VMC, UWNC, UWP, SOM, and ALNW.  The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance on a regular basis.
