Posting Context Statement
The Idaho WWAMI Communication Specialist ensures effective internal and external communications by leading and collaborating on communication and marketing efforts within the unit and across campus. This position advances the reputation of IdahoWWAMI and its programs by acting as the chief content strategist to create purposeful and creative communications that are tied to the University’s brand and messaging. The incumbent provides communications and marketing in a variety of areas, including alumni relations, enrollment, advancement, social media, media and public relations, special events, and publications. The Communication Specialist will report to the Program Manager of the WWAMI Medical Education Program.
Position Overview
The Communications Specialist for the WWAMI Medical Education Program provides marketing and communications support for the program, as well as for research programs such as Idaho Project ECHO and the North Idaho Area Health Education Center. The incumbent provides communications and marketing strategies and information in a variety of areas to include social media, print media, public relations, advancement, special events, and various publications.

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Journalistic writing, news releases and story generation
  • Editing and proofreading professionally
  • Applying web design principles, printing processes, graphics formats and effective design principles
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations; four additional years of experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree
Required Other
  • None

Additional Preferred
  • Communications or design experience, preferably in medical/healthcare education
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Publisher and other related programs
  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work under stress, prioritize projects, perform last minute duties under deadline, and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience using various forms of social media
  • Working knowledge of web marketing principles
