Job Description

The Communications Specialist III , under general supervision, writes, edits and assists in content production for the UCAH website, and with support from Engineering Communications, coordinates communications collaterals, promotional materials, presentations and special events.

This position is a member of the Engineering Communications team and is assigned to perform content creation and coordination of related communications activities. The position is primarily responsible for serving as a communications liaison and coordinator responsible for implementing the marketing and communications plan developed by Engineering Communications for The University Consortium for Advanced Hypersonics (UCAH).

Responsibilities:

  • Content development: Create content for web, print collaterals, news stories, newsletters, social media and other promotional material.
  • Web content management: Manage, write, and edit web content on the WordPress platform. Ensure web content is current, correct and engaging. Ensure web content adheres to editorial and brand guidelines, and that it meets web content and electronic accessibility guidelines.
  • Coordinate the production of communications materials and electronic communications to support the goals of the program.
  • Manage the consortium’s social media channels.
  • Plan and participate in consortium events.
  • Write and distribute consortium’s newsletter.
  • Create and execute annual communications plan in collaboration with the UCAH team and the Assistant Director of Communications, making sure deliverables of the plan are completed and deadlines met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Four years of communications, web, marketing or related experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in writing for the web with an emphasis on content strategy, SEO and web content accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA)
  • Experience updating web content on a platform such as WordPress. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-pace, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in WordPress, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.
