This position located in the Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment (ISSE) and is directly responsible for office communications, publications and general administrative tasks.


The Communications Specialist III creates and develops communication and marketing brochures, newsletters, posters, annual reports and other ISSE  publications. In addition, they will create, maintain and update the website and social media. They will assist the ISSE Director in organizing internal/external events/lectures/meetings/retreats/symposiums and assisting with administrative tasks to raise awareness of ISSE’s activities.


Job Functions and Responsibilities:


Reporting and Publications : Writes and edits research reports and informational articles.  Edits ISSE promotional materials such as newsletters. Maintains database for mailings. Research and writing of accreditation, annual and various publications/reports. Design, maintain and update Center materials, brochures, newsletters and posters. Prepares and edit ISSE's Annual Report to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.


Communications Functions : Web site design, implementation, and maintenance. Responsible for creating and maintaining all Center web sites, which may include creation/manipulation of graphics and composing appropriate text to post. Design and development of electronic marketing materials, social media updates to include Facebook and Twitter, YouTube and other electronic avenues for marketing. Provide input to Director on other marketing components and develop marketing strategies to best fit the needs of ISSE.


Event Planning :  Planning and coordinating internal/external events for the Center and affiliated organizations.

 



Qualifications

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in  English, Communications, Journalism or related field.


Three to five years’ experience:


•Web site design, implementation, and maintenance

•Writing, proofing, editing, and layout and design

•Marketing publications experience

•Social media marketing experience (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc)

•Excellent writing/editing/proofing skills

•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

•Publication knowledge using MS Office Products, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite and/or Dreamweaver.

•Skills associated with social media creation and updates.

•Ability to work independently but interpersonal skills to work in a team.

 

Preferred Qualifications:


Experience in higher education environment is preferred.
