The Communications Specialist II is responsible for developing and implementing integrated communication strategies for the department and sponsored projects. Responsible for organizing and maintaining a comprehensive website and social media presence as well as designing and producing publications/communications. Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of communications and/or marketing experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Working knowledge of graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).

  • Familiarity with and willingness to stay current with social media applications.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

  • An understanding of branding and working within a brand. Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet software.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in related field.

  • Two to five years of related professional experience such as marketing and communication, multimedia/graphics design, digital marketing, website content development/administration, and journalism.

  • Prior experience in higher education.

  • Previous experience with web design and development, content management administration, and web accessibility will help bolster this person’s contributions to the team - bringing new ideas and examples of what other groups are doing successfully.

  • Previous experience working within a brand environment while displaying creativity and visual communication principles.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and, at times, tight deadlines.

  • Ability to work well independently and on a team environment.

  • Ability to manage projects from start to end.

  • Ability to translate research or specialized content matter into materials for broader audiences.

  • Advanced knowledge of communications, marketing and/or public relations.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with Wordpress (web design and development).

  • Demonstrates proficiency in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Website Design - Develop, enhance, and maintain project and department websites using Cascade, WordPress or other content management systems.
  • Marketing Development & Promotion - With the College's Director of Marketing and Communications, develop a comprehensive communication strategy for the department in support of the College of Arts and Sciences mission and goals. Design, create and implement new communication pieces, which may include news articles, print materials, advertising campaigns, digital communications, large format signage, event materials, websites, etc. Support design and implementation of campaigns for marketing and communication. Assist with information updates, as well as the development/publication of reports, presentations, and articles. Research production strategies and formats, while keeping current with industry advancements, trends, and learning opportunities. Develop consistent visual and written image by ensuring uniform formatting, images, fonts, icons, and layout consistent. Assist in special event planning.
  • Research Support - Monitor and report evaluation measures related to website and social media analytics, trainings, presentations, and other messaging reach. Assist in preparing progress and research reports by writing or editing text, creating graphics, infographics, or other forms of data display. Work closely with project or research staff. Translate research findings and other specialized content into materials that appeal to broader audiences.
  • Media Projects - In coordination with the College Social Media Strategist and News Team, maintain overall design for social media content in accordance with Texas A&M University design standards and guidelines. Assist in creating templates for social media, emails, and other interpersonal and digital communications. Provide written communications and takes technical lead for multi-media and graphic development for presentations, printed messaging, and social media projects. Create and maintain active social media identify and presence. Publicize events, information, and resources. Coordinate with subject matter experts, project team members, external consultants or website creators to establish comprehensive and seamless messaging. 
  • Presentations, Trainings and Conferences - Apply innovative communication strategies to strengthen and improve conference presentations, in-person or online trainings, web-based content, and printed materials. Collaborate with and assist specific communication needs of other team members. Deliver presentations, training, or technical assistance as requested. Perform other duties as assigned.
