Purpose

The Communications Specialist II, under general supervision, is assigned to perform various communications duties for Nuclear Engineering. The position is primarily responsible for serving as a communications liaison supporting the strategic communication plan for the department. Responsibilities include: developing content for web, print and digital pieces, news stories, and recruitment material; facilitating the completion of print and digital projects; and coordinating electronic communications to support the goals of the department and engineering program.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Write news feature stories highlighting the faculty, students and research in Nuclear Engineering.-
  • Write content for web, print and digital pieces, social media and communications collateral.
  • Promote departmental special events and programs.
  • Manage the department’s social media presence.
  • Coordinate the production of print material and electronic communications to support the goals of the department through collaboration with Engineering Communications.
  • Utilize a project management tracking system for all project requests.
  • Provide front-facing customer support on communications-related needs and collaborate with support teams in Engineering Communications to fulfill those requests.
  • Assist in the planning and coordinating of meetings, seminars, and other special events.
  • Promote departmental special events and programs.
  • Create slide presentations for departmental events and maintains promotional materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of communications, content creation, journalism, public relations and/or marketing experience.

What is helpful:

  • Experience in the communications, content creation, journalism, public relations and/or marketing field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of writing and how to tailor writing style for various audiences and specific outlets.
  • Understanding of AP style.
  • Ability to edit for grammar, clarity, organization, style and consistency.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrated ability working under deadlines.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Work Location:

  • Main Campus – College Station, TX.
  • Some positions may have potential for a flexible work schedule or location.
