Organizational Unit Overview
The Communications Specialist is a new position for a growing partnership focused on innovation, workforce development, and economic development across eastern North Carolina. This position will support the growth of North Carolina Ecosystem Technology (NC EcoTech), a prospective Regional Innovation Engine with support from the National Science Foundation. The Communications Specialist is responsible for implementing the organization’s strategic communications plan by designing effective and innovative communications including original publications, articles, graphics, briefing materials, press releases, social media posts, and employee messaging.
Through the deployment of EcoTech solutions in coastal resilience and aquaculture, NC EcoTech aims to drive workforce and economic development and, while supporting communities in the coastal region of North Carolina. Unlike competing Engines in other topic areas, NC EcoTech addresses climate resilience stressors through cross-university collaborations, transdisciplinary research networks, strategic regional partnerships, and community engagement strategies. Ultimately, NC EcoTech aims to transform the region into a global hub of EcoTech innovation.
Job Duties
Working with our interdisciplinary team across multiple institutions, the Communications Specialist develops website content, provides program updates across multiple partners, develops and provides content to an organizational newsletter, plans and participates in organizational workshops, community events, and relevant society meetings, and manages social media accounts. This role is an integral part of the Innovation Engine’s effort to unite a region behind a big idea of eastern NC becoming a national leader in this new technology. This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) under the East Carolina University (ECU) FWA Policy.
In accordance with the ECU FWA Policy, this position requires you to live within a reasonable commuting distance of ECU

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience in advertising, marketing, media, promotions or public relations is preferred. Fluency in technical computing skills is preferred to implement the communications plan.
