Position Summary
The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.
We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 10.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the worldâ™s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.
Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.
This position reviews and forwards information in both emergency and non-emergency modes through two-way radio communication, telephone communication, intercom, alarm system/video monitoring, computer interface and face-to-face human contact on a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week basis. All transactions are recorded for future use via radio log.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities


  • Dispatch calls for service providing complete information to Protective Services Response, Public Safety and Supervisory personnel via two-way radio. Provide immediate âœ911❠contacts as directed by Protective Services personnel.
  • Obtain complete information from persons reporting incidents or problems and provide that information to the correct Medical School service provider.
  • Provide visitors, employees, patients, guests and students with directions, information or other appropriate services.
  • Monitor the University Electronic Access Control System via computer terminal and report problems/activity to the Access Control Coordinator or designee.
  • Provide minor technical support for âœafter hours❠Electronic Access Control System malfunctions. Contact the Access Control Coordinator of more serious concerns.
  • Monitors CCTV, building entry point intercoms and alarm panels for safety or security hazards.
  • Answers all telephone lines terminating at the dispatch location.
  • Prioritize calls for services.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of college and prior dispatching experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Positive interpersonal communication skills.
  • Information gathering and organizational skills.
  • Ability to make accurate and timely decisions in a professional manner without immediate supervision.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time, remaining alert.
  • Ability to operate CCTV and video recording equipment.
  • Working knowledge of and the ability to comply with procedures mandated by the Watchmanâ™s Division of the St. Louis Police Department for licensed security officers.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, respect for colleagues and stakeholders, unwavering integrity in all actions, dedicated pursuit of excellence, and a track record of consistent dedication to achieving organizational goals.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • One year of experience as a communications officer/dispatcher in an academic, civilian, or military police environment or similar professional setting or one year of education at a college, technical school, or equivalent.
  • Or a combination of the above experience and education.

Salary Range
$17.52 - $26.27 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
