The O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law was established in 2007 through the generous philanthropy of Linda and Timothy O'Neill to respond to the need for innovative solutions to the most pressing global health concerns. In bringing together experts from both the public health and legal fields, the O'Neill Institute reflects the importance of public and private law in health policy analysis.
Job Overview
The Communications Manager leads and directs the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law communication strategy, and manages the Institute's communication strategy and objectives. As well, they play a key role in developing and advancing the Institute's digital presence, including website management, and email marketing and social media strategies.
A core member of the Institute's communications team, they work with the Executive Director to create and implement strategies aimed at reaching the O'Neill Institute's key audiences with its core work products, including developing original internal and external communication materials such as newsletters, general announcements, press releases, intranet content, employee handbooks, and internal brochures; writing and editing digital content; and ensuring consistent and reliable communications both internally and externally.
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement, in coordination with Institute Directors and Leadership Committee, the O'Neill Institute Communications Strategy
  • Develop integrated marketing and communications strategies across multiple Initiatives that support the goals and mission of the team
  • Design and deploy new communications tools and external relationships to reach new audiences at the national, state, and local levels while increasing the engagement of current audiences
  • Organize contact information and prioritize interaction with key media contacts to elevate institute's work products and policy goals
  • Set quantitative and qualitative metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communications strategies

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting to the Director of Center for Innovation in Global Health, the Communications Manager implements communications strategy, and regularly engages with members of the O'Neill Institute's staff and leadership.
This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
  • B.A. in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field
  • At least 6-8 years professional communications experience that includes digital content development, running an institutional social media account, website management, email marketing, and effective outreach to academic, nonprofit, government, and other policymaker audiences [note: consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and work experience]
  • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Functional knowledge of the following communications tools; Cision, WordPress, Google Analytics, Adobe Pro, MailChimp, Canva, CRM platforms, Facebook and Twitter ads, TweetDeck, Hootsuite, YouTube, Zoom Webinars, Headliner, and LinkedIn
  • Experience with institutional communications
  • Ability to work with changing priorities in a fast-paced, results driven environment

Preferred qualifications
  • Familiarity with domestic or global health issues
  • Fluency in Spanish
