Description of Work Unit
The Office of International Programs (OIP) fosters cross-cultural understanding through high-impact learning and community engagement in support of CSU’s land-grant mission. The office encourages students to experience and understand diverse cultures through education abroad experiences; provides quality services to international students and scholars; and organizes classroom-based, programmatic and experiential activities, both on-campus and abroad, to provide the CSU and broader community with relevant international and intercultural educational experiences. It also supports the international activities of CSU colleges, departments and faculty to create joint research initiatives, international exchanges and other collaborative activities worldwide. Additionally, the office establishes and manages CSU’s strategic global partnerships and is responsible for international student recruitment and intensive English courses and programming.
OIP is led by the Vice Provost for International Affairs and comprises approximately 60 staff and faculty in six units: International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), the International Enrollment Center (IEC), Programs for Learning Academic and Community English (PLACE), Education Abroad (EA), Strategic and Academic Initiatives (SAI) and the CSU Todos Santos Center. The division is continually innovating and expanding the programs and services it offers CSU students, faculty, staff and partners.

Position Summary
The Communications Manager is responsible for internal and external communications, branding and marketing for the Office of International Programs. This is a full-time administrative professional position reporting to the Executive Director of Finance and Operations. Primary responsibilities include collaborating across units to guide and facilitate the creation and implementation of a variety of communications, using marketing strategies and core messaging to ensure consistency with OIP and University branding. This includes the management, promotion and creation of print and digital materials; managing multimedia, including web, social media, digital signs and video production; and other public relations and marketing projects. The Communications Manager is responsible for balancing multiple projects of varying scale throughout the year and manages a budget of $25,000 to $35,000. The position works in person on the CSU campus in Fort Collins with the possibility for partial remote work.
Required Job Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations or marketing with one year of professional communications experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field with five years of professional communications experience
2. Strong writing and editing skills
3. Demonstrated experience with website management, including content creation, design and the use of analytics to measure effectiveness of web strategies
4. Experience with professional writing, including news releases, magazine stories, and promotional material
5. Experience working independently and as part of a team
6. Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to provide coverage and support for OIP and other CSU events
7. The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date of August 29, 2022. International Programs cannot sponsor a visa for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
1. Strong commitment to the principles of diversity, inclusion and equal access
2. Demonstrated strengths in writing and editing across many formats and platforms, and translating complex information into effective communications for a variety of audiences
3. Experience designing promotional materials, both print and web-based, and using social media in marketing communications
4. Professional experience in communications in higher education or with mission-driven organizations such as healthcare systems, foundations, or non-profits, especially those working with diverse cultures or communities
5. Demonstrated strengths in project management, multitasking, problem-solving and attention to detail
6. Professional experience with international education or a related field
7. Experience supervising student and professional staff
8. Master’s degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field

• Coordinate OIP’s messaging to campus stakeholders and to students, and develop communications materials to publicize programs, initiatives and services.
• Oversee the OIP website, including design, branding, content creation and editing. Train appropriate staff members in each unit to edit content while adhering to brand standards.
• Oversee OIP’s social media channels, determining when the content should be generated by unit-level staff and when it should be centrally generated. Explore emerging and new social media networks to determine appropriateness of each for OIP.
• Develop and pursue stories relevant to ongoing international activities through connections with students, faculty, staff, donors and alumni.
• Design, produce and manage photographic, video and graphic assets using internal and external resources.
• Respond to public inquiries and requests from campus, government agencies, businesses and advocacy groups.
• Serve as OIP representative to campus communications groups led by the Office of the Vice President for Marketing and Communications, and other committees as appropriate.
• Contribute to internal office communications, including office news, event invitations and others.
• In collaboration with the International Marketing and Communications Manager, use quantitative and qualitative metrics to assess effectiveness of all communications activities.
• Collaborate with CSU’s Office of Marketing and Communications, including Public Relations and Creative Services.
