What we want

Under direction from the director of communications for the Office of the Provost (and in consultation with other unit leadership), the communications coordinator is an integral part of the Provost Communications Team. The coordinator creates, coordinates and implements a comprehensive communications plan for specific initiatives that includes writing, marketing, social media, media relations, publications and website maintenance/page creation (using a CMS). The coordinator proactively seeks and compiles information on accomplishments, highlighted programs and priorities and student stories for publicity through a variety of channels, including social media posts, website content and publications.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or journalism or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of marketing and/or communications experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong writing and editing skills for public relations, web content, presentations and publications.

  • Ability to work with several constituencies from students to university administrators.

  • Proficient at communicating in accordance with branding/writing guidelines.

  • Knowledge of web-based public relations and applications of social media communications.

  • Demonstrated skills in writing and editing for AP style.

  • Comfortable with website maintenance/page creation using a CMS and planning for communication campaigns.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others in a collaborative team environment.

  • Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills.

  • Ability to communicate with executive-level administrators and provide guidance and input into strategic decisions and directions.

  • Working knowledge of word processing and automated publishing tools.

  • Ability to generate creative ideas and innovative approaches to marketing and communication.

  • Ability to take photographs in support of social media posts.

Preferred Experience:

  • Ability to film and edit content for social media.

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications.

  • Experience in filming and editing purpose-specific video productions.

  • Knowledge of higher education and accessibility best practices.

  • Knowledge of TAMU communication protocols, policies and procedures.

Essential Duties/Tasks

  • Communications - Writes, implements and coordinates the communication and branding strategies, annual marketing plan, public relations, and communication plans and timelines. Maintains the creative campaign to market services provided by the Office for Student Success. Oversees website content, maintenance, social media and strategies for media relations. Maintains relationships with clients, media, stakeholders and prospective clients.

  • Program Planning and Development - Develops and implements programs and services that are informed by best practices in higher education to address needs of first-year students, first-generation college students and students at risk for leaving college. Responds to inquiries regarding program offerings. Prepares marketing materials (including graphics, written communication, social media, web design, etc.) for programs within the Office for Student Success. Works with the assistant provost, on occasion, to provide marketing materials for private funding. Promotes all Office for Student Success programs to internal and external constituents.

  • Committees - Serves on university, division and departmental committees. Performs other duties as assigned.
