Job Description

ASU Media Relations and Strategic Communications is looking for a coordinator with an interest in public relations, journalism and news gathering organizations to assist the department with the university’s media database and outreach tools. This individual will collaborate with all Media Relations and Strategic Communications staff to produce and promote media stories and content.

Salary Range

$52,000 - $57,000 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

Website/Expert Database

  • Support updating Media Relations website
    • Website copy
    • Update and curate expert profiles

Assist with Media Relations

  • Monitor incoming requests on Slack from media members and help make sure that the appropriate media relations officers are notified.
  • Monitor media coverage and reporting
    • Create reports on media coverage using Cision, Critical Mention and other tools
    • Help build analytics dashboard and support quarterly media reports
    • Curate ASU Daily News Clips (AM & PM)
    • Package media hits for the MRO team 
    • Coordinate with ASU News to potential pitch stories to Arizona media
 
  • Cision/Trendkite/Critical Mention
    • Manage accounts 
    • Curate and build lists of relevant media members 
    • Frequently update target media contact lists 

Graduation

  • Assist with outreach prior to fall and spring  graduation ceremonies
  • Help pitch graduation announcements and ASU outstanding student profiles to “hometown” news outlets

Filming Requests

  • Assist with processing  filming requests and logistics with media and TV production companies

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Journalism/News interest and background.
  • Data entry judgment/interest; media experience; database experience;
  • Evidence of effective communications skills
  • Experience in work that requires organizational skills

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
