Communications Assistant Intern - Education Statistics (Bachelor's Students)

Join AIR as a Communications Assistant Intern with our Education Statistics team during our 2024 Virtual Summer Internship Program. The mission of our Education Statistics team is to provide statistical evidence that is meaningful, timely, accurate, and trustworthy. The Intern can expect to work on a variety of communications-related projects to support our project teams with dissemination and outreach strategies and products for federal clients such as the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) as well as help refine internal processes for communicating across teams about our support activities.

 

AIR’s 2024 Virtual Summer Internship Program is designed to identify, attract, and hire the best collegiate talent that will drive creativity and innovation while enabling the organization to create a diverse and skilled talent pool. Spanning 10–12 weeks, AIR’s paid summer program provides Interns with various learning and networking opportunities that enhance their skillset and build lasting professional connections.

 

Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of our U.S. office locations. This does not include U.S. territories.

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Providing communications support to projects related to the data analysis and reporting of assessment data. Data used in various communication formats will be from large scale federal assessments such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and other data from statistical agencies such as the National Center for Education Statistics, National Center for Health Statistics, Institute of Museum and Library Services, and Census.
  • Creating original content to communicate meaning and usefulness of data.
  • Using various styles and formats for communicating (e.g., traditional reports, social media, internal presentations).
  • Monitoring analytics on the reach and effectiveness of communication activities.


Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Must be a current student (for the duration of the internship) pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a communications, design, or production-related field
  • Knowledge of design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Sketch, Figma), SEO, and Google Analytics
  • Some quantitative skills – a plus but not required 
  • Knowledgeable in editing video, 2-D animation, or sound editing – a plus but not required
  • Knowledgeable in using statistical software programs such as R to visualize data – a plus but not required

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent creativity and innovative design skills
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or the equivalent (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate efficiently in a virtual work environment
  • Comfortable working independently and as a member of a team with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all levels
  • Organizational and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. International students who are studying at an accredited U.S. college or university under F1 visas are eligible to apply under Curricular Practical Training (CPT) stipulations.

This position offers $22.00 per hour. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the organization and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the salary for candidates that are based in the United States.
