POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communications and Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing communications for internal and external audiences through various communications channels such as print, web, and email marketing.  This position writes, edits, and promotes news announcements, feature stories, and other creative content for the College of Education and assists with the production and coordination of various marketing initiatives such as inbound marketing campaigns, blog writing and editing, and email communications for key stakeholders. This position is also responsible for managing the College of Education's social media presence on six channels: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest.  This role participates in the strategic planning of special projects related to marketing, communications, and external communications on behalf of the College of Education. This position reports to the Director of Communications in the College of Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Researches, writes, and edits content for the College of Education?s communications channels, including website/blog, print marketing materials, and email communications. Pitches story ideas about the College of Education and its various programs, centers, and institutes for publication in the college's blog, social media accounts, marketing materials, and the college's annual report.
Manages the College's social media accounts and oversees content creation for campaigns and storytelling initiatives on these channels.
Assists with the creation of creative content for campaigns using marketing automation software and tools.
Self-edits work and the work of fellow team members to ensure it is publishable in a timely manner.
Assists with in-person coverage of college-sponsored events through activities such as live-tweeting, photography, and serving as part of the day-of events team.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma and 5 years of related experience, or a bachelor's degree and 1 year of directly related experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

 

FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.


PREFERRED:
Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, or a related field.
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Experience managing social media accounts on behalf of an organization or brand.
Experience crafting communications for segmented stakeholder groups such as current/prospective students, alumni, faculty/staff, donors, and community partners.
Experience developing brand communications for marketing automation campaigns and digital landing pages.
Experience following an organization's brand and style guidelines and writing in Associated Press (AP) style.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and social media management tools (i.e., Hootsuite) is a plus.
Previous experience working in a nonprofit or higher education setting.
