Communication & Marketing Specialist

The Communications and Marketing Specialist in the Department of Agricultural Economics is the primary point person and holds responsibility for department level communications and marketing efforts, including departmental web page, annual and monthly newsletters, social media, podcasts, and other projects as needed.  In this role, you will develop content to promote the work of the department and faculty, provide advice and leadership in initiating new communications and marketing efforts and will assist with media relations.  In addition, you will coordinate and serve as liaison with Agricultural Communications department and ensure internal and external communications align with university's brand. Duties will include:

• Overseeing the design/layout phase and delivering it on time
• Lead the idea generation process of transforming academic content and department activities into communication outputs. This requires working closely with the department’s faculty members and staff to identify the most effective content and converting ideas into tangible outputs
• Identify possible stories for newsletters, press releases, etc. and complete the writing of those stories as requested

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, professional writing, english or related area
• 3 years of experience in marketing, social media, content creation and other digital publications to promote content
• In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required experience (Associate's degree + 5 years of experience; HS/GED + 7 years of experience)
• Proven ability in writing and editing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong editing and proofreading skills
• Social media experience and superior attention to detail
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people
• Creative mindset, self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
• Demonstrated understanding of existing and emerging inbound and outbound marketing approaches
• Knowledge of tools for optimization and industry trends
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
• Strong project management skills
• Superior proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products

• Knowledge of Adobe Create Suite
• Graphic design experience
• Knowledge of web design and updates
• Video production and editing skills
• Experience in multiple communications platforms (video, audio, printed media, social media) and ability to adapt to new platforms
