The Communications Coordinator will be the lead communicator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County. Responsibilities include coordinating and implementing compelling written and visual content, public relations, marketing, website maintenance, producing news releases, creating newsletters, and managing social media content through creative and strategic thinking to amplify the impact of the content created. May provide oversight to volunteers within scope of the position.

    

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related discipline or Equivalent Education. GED/High School Diploma plus 1 year transferrable program/functional experience may substitute .

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English.

  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator or related) as well as  Windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

  • Demonstrated skills in desktop publishing, web development, large format printing, writing.

  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly for a general audience with excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills for feature writing, writing for marketing purposes, and writing for digital communications, including web and social media.

Essential Functions:
Administrative Direction - 5%

  • Provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for communications & marketing efforts related to Association programs and events, including social media, brochures, website, signage, advertisements, Association publications, and press releases.

  • Establish a network of media and marketing contacts that are kept informed of CCE programs and events.

  • Assist in planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts and marketing efforts. 

  • Make recommendations to Executive Director for strengthening and improving the marketing plans.

  • Plan mass media efforts and utilize good marketing strategies to generate appropriate public image and messaging.

  • Provide input and make recommendations for strengthening and improving Annual Giving and donations.

  • May provide input into communications budgeting and feasibility of program communication goals.

Administrative Management - 25%

  • Assist with maintaining volunteer direction and management procedures according to established policies and procedures by providing guidance, leadership and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, evaluation, and management.

  • Guide the implementation of communications strategies, both program specific and association-wide ensuring all media and PR products comply with Cornell University Style/Brand Requirements, Association imaging/branding strategies, Federal compliance (EEO statements, etc.), and digital accessibility/ADA.

  • Manage the Association’s communications, marketing, fundraising and social media efforts.

  • Support social media security by both creating and providing oversite for Association specific accounts and passwords shared with the Association leadership team.

Administrative Coordination/Operation - 65%

  • Coordinate, design and write for media efforts related to Association programs and events, including brochures, signage, advertisements, annual reports, and press releases to promote Association programs and activities.

  • Oversee social media accounts’ layout, in accordance with CCE branding and ADA requirements. 

  • Suggest new ways to attract prospective program participants, through social media.

  • Coordinate and maintain regular communications calendar and plans for traditional, print, and social media communications, inclusive of all Association programs and events.

  • Coordinate, design and write for new media & social marketing efforts related to Association programs and events, including e-newsletters, social media and website posts and updates based on established Association policy.

  • Create engaging text, image and video content. Measure and monitor web traffic.

  • Stay up-to-date with changes in all social platforms ensuring maximum effectiveness.

  • Produce photo and video assets.

  • Support staff with development of program brochures and fliers as well as general Association brochures and displays with Executive Director and/or supervisor guidance.  Act as production and marketing resource for staff.

  • Maintain database of and network with media and marketing contacts to be informed of CCE programs and events. Maintain mailing lists for e-mails and US Mail communications.

  • Maintain a network of media and marketing contacts that are kept informed of CCE programs and events.

  • Under guidance of Executive Director, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing and communications.

  • In coordination with staff, respond to general requests for information about CCE programs, activities and grants in the community.

  • Create media opportunities and direct press inquiries and opportunities to appropriate staff.

  • Work closely with staff to create and distribute the Association’s Annual Report and other key marketing and reporting documents.

  • Coordinate and execute tasks for Association-wide events.

  • Report monthly communications efforts to the Board of Directors.

  • Assist with necessary preparations and arrangements for board, committee and annual meetings. Coordinate the nomination and orientation of new board and committee members.

  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected.

  • Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as requested.

  • This position may require the transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.

  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. 

  • Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
