Purpose

Support the completion of projects whose goal is to improve Utilities and Energy Management systems and processes. Gathers information on existing systems or processes and researches relevant topics related to each project. Provide skilled testing, installation, repair, and project coordination associated with building systems and distributed district energy systems. This position will provide technical support and development assistance for the proper operation of main campus and JJPRC campus plant controls, energy metering, networking, and utility system updates



Responsibilities

Drive university vehicles or carts as needed. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with Utilities Engineers, Operations, and Technical Staff within Utilities and Energy Management, emphasizing utility-focused projects. Provide support to Utilities staff and University Stakeholders— across facilities and utility systems.
  • Forward Thinking: Stay up to date with and integrate emerging technologies essential to the role. Engage in ongoing training, seminars, and educational programs to stay updated on industry advancements. Adapt and apply newfound knowledge to drive innovation and efficiency, ensuring alignment with evolving industry standards within the role's responsibilities
  • Project Management: Coordinate project activities, resources, and teams to achieve project objectives within set timelines and budgets. Lead planning, organization, and execution while ensuring effective communication, risk management, and problem-solving. Facilitate team collaboration to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Programming: Responsible for assisting in the design for process control programming, repairing, and modifying utility controls systems, servers, and work stations. Works with maintenance of logic programs and database applications throughout the power plant and chilling stations Works with Lead Programmer identifying project development improvements and recommends to Engineers programming, modifications, and integration to existing utility systems. Assists with design and development of control processes that ensure minimum risk to services or systems due to error. Develop schemes for testing, analysis, and troubleshooting of process control systems and software applications. Identifies and resolves control logic program related issues and errors.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain records and documentation related to Process Controls and relevant Departmental Initiatives. Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, project plans, recommendations, and results of project implementation. Provide regular updates to stakeholders on findings.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned. Work is performed in accordance with normal trade practices and is inspected for conformity to standards, quality and quantity by journey-level employees or supervisor. Attends staff meetings, safety training and meetings


Required Qualifications

Associates degree in science, engineering, technology, mathematics, construction, or management field. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Project management experience in any field. Able to accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance. Ability to work independently as well as with peers and management. Enjoys learning and solving problems. Strong desire to learn software applications and field support skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent collaboration and team-focused mindset. Strong organizational skills and attentiveness to detail. Experience working on applicable software, power management equipment, and control systems applications. Knowledge of power plant and chilling station equipment and operations including gas fired boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators, electrical switch gear protective relaying, electrical distribution, chillers, cooling towers and associated operations. Knowledge of data management techniques across different network layers and segments.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.



Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field. Experience producing diagrams and schematics using computer aided drafting software. Experience producing professional communication documents using word processing software. Ability to properly use calibrated test instruments such as multimeters, current loop calibrators, thermal imaging cameras, manometers, and ultrasonic flow meters. Proficient (3+ years of experience) with Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Visio, Excel), Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop), and/or Computer Aided Design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, ProE). Experience and/or training in the design, testing, and/or repair of HVAC, Lighting, Electrical, Water, Solar, and/or electric vehicle charging systems
 


Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).


Salary Range

$72,000

Work Shift

  • 40 Hour Work Week Schedule; Monday-Friday, 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM (May work four ten-hour shifts, nine-eighty shifts, or alternate work schedule based on business needs and supervisor's discretion); This position provides for work-life balance with typically a 40- hours work week that includes flexible work arrangements. The current schedule requires the employee to work on the UT Austin campus 3 days per week.
