College Preparation Advisor, Talent Search

Job Description:
The College Preparation Advisor for Open Doors at Cameron University is critical to the success of the Open Doors program and its students.

  •  Recruit, identify and select new students to maintain total caseload of 200-225 students (100 for part-time advisor) at assigned schools.
  • Advise all assigned Open Doors students at least once a month.
  • Accurately document student contacts on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain close contact with every senior to ensure that all college admissions, financial aid, and scholarships applications have been completed in a timely fashion.
  • Supervise and assist in transporting students on campus visits, community service activities, educational and cultural activities.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily activities for students attending summer programs.
  • Meet with parents as needed to provide information about program activities, ensure program objectives are being met, and/or to counsel parents about student problems.
  • Work occasional nights, overnights and weekends.
  • Fulfill other duties and requested by Program Director.

Supervision:
The Academic Advisor will report to the Open Doors Assistant Director and Program Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Background similar to that of Open Doors’ students
  • Strong  interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and management ability

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral science or education
  • Master's degree
  • Experience working with youth

SALARY:
$33, 750.00
