College of Science & Mathematics - Pre-Health Student Mentor

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Pre-Health Student Mentor position is a new role within the College of Sciences and Mathematics to hire a student worker to support the pre-health advisor in supporting pre-health students both in individual and group settings.
The Pre-Health Student Mentor should expect to work 8-10 hours a week, fulfilling the following responsibilities:
·      The mentor will run small-group meetings on pre-scheduled Well-core hours to give an overview for “Early Stage” and “Applying” students. The presentations will already be made but the advisor will be available to answer questions and facilitate discussion following the presentation
·      The mentor will hold ~5-6 hours of individual meeting times with students to discuss their pre-health path. They will document each discussion for review by the Pre-Health Advisor.
·      The mentor will communicate regularly with the Pre-Health advisor through text and email for any questions that pop up. They will also work with the Pre-Health advisor to ensure other events are facilitated appropriately.

Required Qualifications ·      The Pre-Health Student Mentor must be in excellent academic standing with strong experience with the majority of pre-health courses.
·      The Pre-Health Student Mentor must have significant clinical and community experiences
·      Ideally, the Pre-Health Student Mentor is currently in their graduate application year and has already submitted their primary application, specifically to medical school.
   
Required Education Must be enrolled as a student at Belmont University and previously approved by the Pre-Health Advisor  
   
Required Experience Competitive applicants should have been involved in the Peer Advising League, showcasing an understanding of the 3 pre-health buckets described by the Pre-Health Advisor (Class, Clinic, Community) as well as a dedication to supporting other students.
