The College of Health seeks a part-time student employee to assist the communications team. The candidate will work under general or intermittent supervision with members of the COH communications team to produce written and visual content. Duties are varied and require some independent judgment.
Examples of typical work include: ● Research story ideas. ● Interview subjects to gather useful quotes and information. ● Write, edit, and fact-check copy to ensure it’s accurate and engaging. ● Collaborate with the communications team to create high-quality content. ● Assist with photography and video opportunities throughout the college.
To thrive in this role, the following skills are required:
● Strong research, interviewing, writing, and editing skills.
● Comfortable asking questions and gathering information.
● Able to work quickly and accurately within determined deadlines.
● Excellent at communication and relationship-building.
● Familiar with AP Style.
Preferred skills include:
● Experience or interest in editing software for photography, video and graphic design.
Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:
a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.
d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.
f. Position reappointment is contingent upon successful progress toward degree completion and performance evaluation.
Position Details:
This position is located on the Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a part-time, temporary Student Worker position, up to 30 hours per week while school is in session. Starting hourly rate is $15.00.
This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
