The Career Development office is a division of the College of Arts & Sciences Student Services & Admissions office. The College of Arts & Sciences has 4,400+ undergraduate students, representing different under-represented backgrounds and cultures from across the U.S. and the world. Career Development serves all undergraduate students, as well as recent graduates up to 5 years after graduation, on all career related topics including internship/job search strategies, graduate and professional school admission, major and career exploration, interviewing, and job offer negotiation. Our very busy office serves ~2,500 unique students each year through individual appointments, workshops, and events.

Arts & Sciences Career Development seeks a Career Development Associate to coach (both individually and in group settings) 4,400+ undergraduate students and recent graduates (up to 5 years after graduation) towards their career development goals.  The primary responsibility for this role will be student career coaching, with an emphasis on careers in technology, finance, and consulting, along with a variety of other Arts & Sciences disciplines.  Guide students on career development and job search issues, including, but not limited to: career/major exploration, job/internship search strategies, resume/cover letter reviews, interview skills and feedback, job offer evaluation, salary negotiation, and resource referrals.  Coach students on graduate school, including, but not limited to: determining if/when to attend graduate school, identifying schools, reviewing application materials, and evaluating admissions offers.  Conduct behavioral and case practice interviews with students and provide positive and constructive feedback. Administer and interpret career-related testing and assessments.  Review applications for the Arts & Sciences Summer Experience Grant and Nexus Scholars.  Refer students to campus resources. 

Educate students on career development issues using various media including workshops, lectures, seminars, print materials, web pages, and other technology.  Develop, update, and present workshops that meet student needs for career development and planning.  Assist Senior Career Development Associate with creating and conducting career related workshops for the First Year Advising Seminar.  Evening or weekend hours may be required in order to facilitate programs and workshops.  Assist with the creation and maintenance of the Career Development Toolkit, on-demand career content offered via Canvas.  Research trends in hiring and interviewing, and assist in creating/maintaining resources as applicable.  Assist the Program Coordinator in creating content for weekly career newsletters.  Collaborate with colleagues in Arts & Sciences Student Services, Cornell Career Services, other college career offices, and other offices across campus.  Other duties as assigned.

This is a hybrid position. After a period of training, 4 days on campus and 1 day remote will be an option.

Pay Range- $62,035- $64,050 (Supersedes pay range below)

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color. 
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. 
  • Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of experience working in higher education or equivalent combination. 
  • Must have strong student services skills and the desire to work with college students.
  • Professional demeanor required to interact with current/prospective students, parents, alumni, employers, staff, faculty, and other constituents with diplomacy and tact.
  • Commitment to/understanding of the liberal arts and sciences mission, and how to assist students in utilizing their education/skills in obtaining their career goals.
  • Knowledge of career/student development theories and the ability to apply them while interacting with students is necessary.
  • Strong coaching, presentation, teamwork, and collaboration are required.
  • Accurate spelling, grammar, writing, and editorial skills are necessary to review students’ application materials.
  • Must be team player to work across a College based office, Career Services offices across campus, and colleagues in the College of Arts & Sciences Student Services.

  • Proactive and “can do” attitude

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education or coaching. 
  • Experience in a career services role (preferably one-on-one and group advising) including expertise in resume reviews, practice interviews, and job search strategies. 
  • Familiarity with tech, consulting and/or finance industries. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to integrate NACE Career Readiness competencies into coaching and programming. 
  • Ability to understand the needs of high achieving Ivy League students, and coach students regarding stress management.
  • Familiarity with online career tools, such as Handshake, a plus.
