College Intern Advisor for Middle School Students, FWS Off Campus

Job Summary:

First Graduate works with students who would be the first in their families to graduate from college. We make a 12 year commitment to students starting the summer after their 6th grade year. First Graduate is seeking highly motivated and passionate college advisor interns for the 2022-2023 school year. After orientation and training, college advisors will provide individual coaching to middle school students around academics and the high school application process, and provide some support to the First Graduate after school program.

Full Job Description:

Daily Roles/Responsibilities  

  • After-School Support (3-4 hours per week, virtual)

    • Use your passion for education and working with middle school youth to support First Graduate students at virtual events and potential tutoring opportunities 1x a week

  • Coach a caseload of 7th or 8th grade students around grades, goals, and high school/college/career interests during 1 on 1 check-ins after-school

  • Support with specific projects (1-2 hours per week, virtual)

    • Each intern will support staff with specific projects that pertain to the middle school program such as uploading event attendance and creation of materials for newsletters, recruitment, and other events

  • Interns will have an opportunity to work with other interns and staff on some of those specific projects

  • Professional Development (1-2 hours per week, virtual) 

    • Continuously work on developing coaching techniques and developing knowledge of the high school application process in San Francisco

  • Meet with First Graduate staff to discuss goals and share out student progress and concerns 

  • Opportunities to collaborate with other interns in the program on ways to continuously improve in the role 

Desired Qualities and Skills:

  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and take initiative 

  • Passion for working with middle school students 

  • Interest in developing tutoring and coaching skills 

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills 

  • Familiarity with GoogleSuite 

  • Internet connection with a quiet place to work

  • Familiarity with facilitating Zoom meetings is a plus

Length of Program and Compensation: 

  • $19/hour 

  • Approximately 10-12 hours/week 

  • Start Date: end of August

  • End Date: mid-May 

  • Preference will be given to candidates who are available between approximately 4:00-6:00 at least 2 days a week Mon-Fri

Location: 

  • Programming will be hybrid model but interns are able to work remotely
