The University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music is recruiting a staff Technical Director that will be directly responsible for the supervision and implementation of the scenery, rigging and flying elements for the College Conservatory of Music; Opera, Musical Theatre and Drama Departments. It will also supervise and teach students in classes, productions and work-study positions, as well as co-coordinate the student work programs. Additionally, the selected candidate will do the general planning and management for the scenery aspects for the Opera, Musical Theatre and Drama Department, as well as ensure safe-working practices and facilitate repair and maintenance of theatre resources and equipment. 

• Oversee and supervise student crews at work in the CCM scene shop and theaters, both on and off site.
• Teach students enrolled in technical theatre labs through on-site interaction with majors and non-major undergraduates and graduate students.
• Monitor production budgets and advises faculty Theatre Director and Production Manager of potential overruns.
• Supervise all scenic aspects for event season of plays, operas and musicals including weekends/evenings.
• Share with Faculty Technical Director on a show by show basis: technical direction advising and consultation for Student TD’s, ATD, and Lead Carpenters.
• Assist Faculty in assigning of grades for lab work.
• Serve as liaison to CCM Performance Management Office (PMO) for the maintenance and upkeep of theatres. Work with the PMO office to determine feasibility of staffing and resources for non-TAPAA events with TAPAA students.
• Order and purchase supplies for productions and for theatre lab classes taught in the scene hop.
• Serve as department safety officer (pyrotechnics, flame, firearms used in production) for the TAPAA unit.
• Ensure all performance venues are in good working order and make recommendations and/or implement improvements/repairs.
• Provide direct and/or indirect supervision (with consultation with the Production Manager) to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
• Coordinate weekly shop meeting with staff, faculty and students to provide calendar, budget, scope and scale oversight for the academic calendar and all TAPAA supported productions.
• Support all University policies.
• Provide a positive atmosphere for production area majors and non-majors.
• Evening and weekend hours required.
• Co-coordinate with Faculty Technical Director and Production Manager, departmental scenery and property rentals as needed.

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

• Three (3) years of experience in technical theatre production in higher education.
• Experience may also require at least one (1) year supervision.
