Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents.
Cowell College is the founding College at UCSC. The College has about 1,700 undergraduate students, about 700 of whom live in residence. Faculty and staff at the College work closely together to support an integrated approach to undergraduate education in the context of a living/learning community whose motto is "The Pursuit of Truth in the Company of Friends."
Stevenson College is one of the first colleges at UCSC. The College has about 1,700 undergraduate students, about 700 of whom live in residence. Faculty and staff at the College work closely together to support an integrated approach to undergraduate education in the context of a living/learning community whose theme is "Self and Society".
Under the general supervision of the College Administrative Officer, the incumbents will perform a wide variety of general customer service and office management duties, general academic advising support, problem solving, information research, and college mail management. This position has extensive contact with campus units, academic departments and faculty, parents and other members of the public.
Substantial experience working in a customer service focused environment with an emphasis on effectiveness, professionalism, tact, and integrity.
Excellent related administrative/clerical experience with knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on active listening. Must possess the ability to comprehend and react in a flexible and professional manner.
Excellent telephone and customer service skills with the ability to convey information in a supportive, yet clear and concise manner.
Experience with computers and word processing, database, calendaring, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, browser, and email applications with the ability to produce a variety of correspondence, including newsletters and flyers.
Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to handle and prioritize a variety of customer service tasks and to provide assistance to professional and clerical staff as needed.
Ability to maintain tact, diplomacy, and patience while handling numerous inquiries on a wide variety of subjects; use good judgment in referring inquiries to other campus resources.
Ability to work with, supervise, motivate, and mentor student staff.
Ability to interpret and provide instruction on regulations ranging from academic, social and residential college & departmental policies to general University policies & procedures.
Ability to maintain records and filing systems with the ability to maintain the confidentiality of all records and information.
Ability to interact effectively with staff and students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Ability to interpret and provide instruction on regulations ranging from Federal postal laws, to academic, social and residential college and department policies, to general University policies and procedures.
Knowledge of US postal service regulations and rules.
Experience working with college age students.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal background check.
