Georgia State University's College Advising Corps seeks to hire recent bachelor’s degree graduates (May '22-May '24) to work as College Advisers in high-needs Atlanta Public High Schools. College Advising Corps college advisers help students in underrepresented communities realize their ambitions of attending college and achieving postsecondary success as members of a nationwide movement. College Advising Corps advisers will report to program staff and a supervisor on-site at each institution they serve.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
Provide one-on-one admissions and financial aid to any student or family seeking assistance
• Develop for each student a comprehensive college timeline including a match-and-fit college list along with deadlines for admission and financial aid.
• Help each student complete and submit 3-5 college admission applications and necessary financial aid applications.
Organize group events that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to college and universities
• Visit classrooms, assemblies, and student organization meetings to offer College Advising Corps services and emphasize the importance of post-secondary education.
• Work with local community groups – churches, community-based organizations, social service providers, etc. – to offer group events outside school settings and hours.
Establish productive working relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers in the assigned partner school
• Assists, in the consultation with College Advising Corps Program Director and partner school personnel, with the particular needs of each school and adapt programs and activities to meet these needs.
• Actively seek the advice and counsel of the on-site supervisor at the partner high school.
Assist in the efforts of the other College Advising Corps advisers
• Regularly visit other partner high schools during school days.
• Help organize, provide support for, and attend evening and weekend events organized by other advisers.
Assist in the assessment and long-term sustainability of the program
• Assist the program director and evaluation staff to identify, collect and interpret key progress and outcome variables to evaluate the effectiveness of College Advising Corps.
• Record up-to-date service activity data and submit monthly progress reports to the program director documenting progress and outcome data.
Maintain expertise in admissions and financial aid advising
• Participate fully in pre-and in-service training.
• In consultation with the program director, seek out and participate in other activities as instructed.
Additional Information: During the school year, advisers work normal, full-time hours in accordance with the high school/site supervisor's schedule. The advisers will begin their duty in their respective schools in August 2024, following training at Georgia State University in July, and continue until May 31, 2025.

College advisers must possess tact, diplomacy, and a strong dedication to service. Successful advisers demonstrate the capacity to interact effectively and creatively with others to solve challenges and achieve objectives. Successful advisers also possess great organizational and communication abilities, such as the capacity to listen attentively, write clearly, and talk persuasively. Bachelor's degree from an approved university is required
