Job Summary/Basic Function:
  • Advise Business students on academic policies/procedures, career options, degree requirements, and course selection.
  • Participate in required advising efforts for the College through several mediums including online, face-to-face, telephone, orientations.
  • Actively participate in COBE events for students such as workshops that are offered through the office or COBE departments. Serve on various committees throughout the university.
  • Support Advising Coordinators with special projects such as COBE Admissions, Recruitment and First semester advising planning.

    Level Scope:

    Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

    Essential Functions:

    Academic Advising (80%)

    • Advise students for business career options, academic policies and procedures, degree requirements and course selection. 
    • Provide information regarding additional support services available to students. Work with incoming freshman, new transfer students and current students at all levels.        

    Supporting Advising Coordinators (15%)

    • Supporting Advisor Coordinators with projects such as group advising scheduling, new student orientation, finish in four programming, waitlist audits, conditional permission number audits and more as needed. 

    COBE Advising Support Events (5%)

    • Actively participate in COBE events for students such as workshops that are offered through the COBE advising office or other COBE Departments, Bronco Day or Discover Boise State. Serve on various committees throughout the college or university.
    • Perform other duties as assigned. 
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Ability to interpret academic program curricula to provide effective student advising.
    • Basic computer skills, customer service, strong oral and written communication, and problem solving skills.
    • Knowledge of or ability to learn a student information system.
    • Knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft Excel and Google Docs for data collection and interpretation.
    • The ability to effectively communicate information and ideas.
    • Ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish the tasks at hand.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of institutional policies.
    • Good knowledge of: discussing career and educational goals with students; identifying student strengths and weaknesses.
    • Experience: in student counseling, development, education or related field.
    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Communications or a related field.
    • 2-3 years of experience in advising or a related field.
    Salary and Benefits:

    Salary range is $47,195.20- $49,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
