Co-Instructor for Experiencing Architecture
History of Art & Architecture - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (24001947)

The Architectural Studies program is excited to host the third installment of a summer program for local high school students interested in studying and pursuing careers in architecture. Experiencing Architecture will introduce students to various facets of architectural study and practice through a design project, site tours, engagement with local professionals, lectures, and discussions. The program will be held in person on the University of Pittsburgh Oakland campus for four weeks in July. 20-24 high school students from Pittsburgh and the surrounding region will participate. The program is led by an Instructor who is a local practicing architect and adjunct professor in the Architectural Studies Program. We are seeking to engage a Co-Instructor who will support the program goals and share the teaching role. The schedule will be developed once the Co-Instructor is engaged, but the intention is for a 3-day-a-week role, where 2 days are led by each instructor and the 3rd day is co-taught. The program will also hire undergraduate Program Assistants who are current students in the Architectural Studies Program and who will support the instructors in the program daily.

Responsibilities will include demonstrating hand drawing, sketching, or digital rendering techniques; developing lessons and lectures along with the other instructor; planning and executing trips and events; assisting students with building physical or digital models; trouble-shooting tech and helping set up zoom meetings; answering student questions; and preparing for and cleaning up after each day.

Qualifications:

Interested candidates should be practicing architects or architectural designers, in addition to having and displaying experience teaching and working with young people. Strong applicants for the Co-Instructor position will be patient, thoughtful, capable, and excited to introduce young people from diverse backgrounds to architecture at the University of Pittsburgh, and to pathways in the study of architecture.

How to apply:

A letter of interest and an up-to-date Resumé/CV should be submitted by Friday, March 22, 2024.
