Job Summary

Department Purpose

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Accreditation for Counseling Services), and APA (American Psychological Association). SHCS mental health staff are an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, masters therapists, and pre-and post-doctoral trainees, dedicated to providing student-centered mental health services, advocacy, outreach, and consultation to promote psychological well-being and academic success. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.

Job Summary

Under the direction of a Counseling Services (CS) Supervisor at Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), this position performs professional patient/client care (individual, group, crisis intervention, and case management) assigned by quarterly clinic schedule. Provides campus programs on mental health and wellness education, multicultural concerns and prevention, provides supervision and training to Counseling Services trainees in an APA accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Complies with professional requirements of SHCS and UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work in multiple locations and move from building to building.
  • Daily move throughout a 3-story building.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work evenings and some weekends.
  • May be assigned to work remotely, based on operational needs.
  • Position subject to credentialing process at Student Health and Counseling Services.
  • Position is subject to pre-placement screening provided by Occupational Health Services. Pre-placement screening will consist of infection control testing that includes blood tests for TB screening and other infectious diseases and may include a physical exam, provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This is done to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
  • Position requires signing a statement acknowledging requirement to report child abuse (CANRA) and requirement to report suspected abuse of dependent adults and elders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • California Licensed Psychologist (PSYCH)

Additional Minimum License/Certification:

  • Psychologists (e.g., Psy.D., Ph.D.) governed by California Board of Psychology are required to possess valid license. Psychologist applicants possessing a valid license in another state must obtain California licensure within 180 days after submitting an application to become licensed in California or from date of commencement of residency in California, whichever comes first. OR Applicants who are not licensed, but who are license eligible as psychologists in California, must have passed the EPPP by time of application. Must possess California Board of Psychology valid license within 30 days of job offer.
  • Current CPR certification.

Minimum Education/Experience:           

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse social, cultural or socio-cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience treating diverse clients using short-term models of individual and group psychotherapy/counseling.
  • Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis.
  • Experience establishing professional work relationships.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:            

  • Experience treating neurodivergent clients.
  • Experience working with historically underserved or marginalized client populations (e.g. Native American, LGBTQIA, African Diaspora, Chicanx/Latinx, etc.)
  • Experience working with clients who have concerns with Alcohol and Other Drugs.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and experience providing psychotherapy in Mandarin.
  • Experience working in a university counseling service with strong student service orientation.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Ability to provide supervision to predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees.
