About the Center:

The Rapid Prototyping Research Center (RPRC) focuses on providing its Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors a unique perspective on rapid prototyping that aligns with Section 804 in the FY17 National Defense Authorization Act. Specifically, rather than developing a new system to satisfy intractable problems on the battlefield, the RPRC integrates new technology into existing infrastructure. This unique approach reduces acquisition costs since the sustainment tail is in place. It also reduces the time to field intractable solutions to the battlefield from 10-14 years down to 1-3 years and provides assurance that the prototype involved is integrated with the latest technology, not dated technology due to lengthy acquisition delivery timelines.

About the Position:

The Cloud Network Engineer will have the responsibility for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based network infrastructures, managing networking technologies such as routing, switching, load balancing, and firewalling, as well as cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Additionally, will have the responsibility to provide detailed networking diagrams, configure networks per the Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC,), or U.S Government department and agency requirements and security standards, and work collaboratively with other team members to ensure network reliability, scalability, and security.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of network solutions, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and other network technologies.
  • Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to define technical requirements, develop network architectures, and identify risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop detailed network design documentation, including diagrams, technical specifications, and test plans.
  • Lead the implementation and deployment of the network architecture, ensuring that the solutions are scalable, reliable, and secure.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on the implementation of the network architecture, including configuration, testing, and troubleshooting processes.
  • Participate in solution reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure the solutions meet quality standards.
  • Ensure that the team members, including GMU employees, students, and contractors, deliver high-quality network solutions that meet the needs of our clients and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve RPRC's processes and tools and provide leadership in adopting new network technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to RPRC and help to build a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience as a Network Engineer or Network Architect, designing and implementing network solutions for various applications (typically 5+ years);
  • Experience with network technologies like LAN, WAN, VPN, and firewalls;
  • Experience with network security technologies, such as IPSec, SSL, and firewall rules;
  • Expertise in networking technologies such as routing, switching, load balancing, and firewalling;
  • Experience in cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP);
  • Experience in providing detailed networking diagrams and configuring networks per the Department of Defense (DoD) requirements and security standards;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with ability to identify and mitigate technical risks;
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality network solutions on-time and meeting customer requirements;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members to ensure network reliability, scalability, and security; and
  • Must be a US citizen with ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related field;
