Job Summary:

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is recruiting an outstanding candidate to further develop its excellent research program. We seek a MD, PhD, or MD-PhD scientist with the ability to build and maintain an internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program. The division is looking for a faculty member who is focused in one or more of the following areas: behavior change, implementation science, population health, health disparities, clinical research informatics, health services research, palliative care and substance abuse. Valued assets include scientific accomplishment and drive, backed by primary research publications, collaborative and interpersonal skills and peer-reviewed extramural funding consistent with seniority. Strong mentoring experience/skills are also very important for this position. There is a competitive start-up package.

If the candidate is an MD or DO you may, as a clinician, practice and teach general internal medicine in a patient-centered medical home. Candidates must be board certified or board-eligible in internal medicine. The physician will provide care for patients at a University of Colorado Health or University of Colorado Internal Medicine Clinic, with opportunities for precepting residents and students. Faculty share responsibilities for night, week-end, and vacation coverage with other members of the group practice and will participate in decisions regarding the practice operation.

The clinician-researcher will have opportunity for academic promotion judged on criteria of demonstrated excellence as a clinician/educator/scholar.  

Work Location:

Onsite - This role is expected to work onsite and is located in the Denver Metro area.

Faculty Rank is dependent upon years of experience, fellowships completed, board certification and candidate’s preference on committing to a tenure track. 

Non-Tenured Track 

Instructor:

  • PhD, MD or DO degree
    • If MD or DO seeking to be a clinician in GIM Clinic
      • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
      • Current State of Colorado Medical License by the employment start date 

Senior Instructor:

  • PhD, MD or DO degree
    • If MD or DO seeking to be a clinician in GIM Clinic
    • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
    • Current State of Colorado Medical License by the employment start date
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician-researcher 

Tenured Track 

Assistant Professor:

  • PhD, MD or DO degree
    • If MD or DO seeking to be a clinician in GIM Clinic
      • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
      • Current State of Colorado Medical License by the employment start date 

*Associate Professor:

  • PhD, MD or DO degree
    • If MD or DO seeking to be a clinician in GIM Clinic
      • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
      • Current State of Colorado Medical License by the employment start date
  • Seven (7) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician-researcher
  • Rank of Associate Professor, or equivalent, already attained at a prior academic institution 

*Professor:

  • PhD, MD or DO degree
    • If MD or DO seeking to be a clinician in GIM Clinic
      • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
      • Current State of Colorado Medical License by the employment start date
  • Fourteen (14) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician-researcher
  • Rank of Professor, or equivalent, already attained at a prior academic institution 

*School of Medicine faculty appointed to the level of Associate Professor or Professor are subject to review and approval of the School of Medicine Faculty Promotions Committee and the Executive Committee.  The term "visiting" will be used in the faculty member's title (e.g., "Visiting Associate Professor" and "Visiting Professor") until the dossier has been approved by these committees.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current DEA by employment start date, if MD or DO seeking to be a clinician in GIM Clinic
  • 0-7 years of experience as a PhD, MD or DO clinician-researcher
    • Fellowship experience will be considered under years of experience

Professor: $231,000 – 247,000

PhD:

Instructor: $102,000 - 109,000

Senior Instructor: $105,000 – 109,000

Assistant Professor: $102,000 – 109,000

Associate Professor: $130,000 – 139,000

Professor: $196,000 – 210,000

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
