The Flint Animal Cancer Center (FACC) in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University serves to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in pet animals, translating our research and knowledge to also benefit people with cancer. They offer the latest and most advanced diagnostics and treatments in surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. They attain their mission through an innovative study of cancer, thoughtful and compassionate care, specialized treatment options and procedures.
Position Summary
The Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University is seeking applications to fill the position of Clinical Trials Technician. This position will manage the patient intake process and obtain a detailed client history, perform vitals and sample collections, and assist clinicians in physical examinations. They will be responsible for administering treatments to trials patients such as chemotherapy, study drugs, and other medications. They will help with data collection including lesion measurements and photo documentation, etc. They will also serve as the client liaison regarding questions about the clinical trials logistics or scheduling and client eligibility. They will also assist in the clinical trials lab with protocol development, clinical trial preparation, and close out including sample management, shipping, study document development, etc. Participate in required clinical trials-related training/continuing education.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; The department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Required Job Qualifications
  • BS degree
  • Certified veterinary technician with at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Must be comfortable with the administration and monitoring of sedation and anesthesia in dogs and cats
  • Ability to work with others in a team atmosphere.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Previous experience in veterinary oncology/chemotherapy administration
  • Previous experience with veterinary and/or human clinical trials
  • Familiarity with benchtop/lab procedures

  • Providing technical and nursing support to animal cancer patients, clinicians, students, and clients associated with the clinical trials service. This includes being responsible for intake of patients on clinical trials for appointments and obtaining detailed history from owners, performing vital signs and weight on canine and feline patients, sample collection (blood, urine, feces, tumor/lymph node aspirates) from trials patients, and assisting Dr. in physical examinations and data collection including lesion measurements and photo documentation.
  • Administering sedation and anesthesia for procedures such as tumor biopsies, bone marrow aspirates, etc. and monitoring patients during these procedures.
  • Administering treatments to trials patients including chemotherapy, study drugs, and other medications by various methods (oral, intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular).
