Position Responsibilities


Position Summary
The University of Idaho’s Department of Movement Sciences and the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences are pleased to announce the availability of a 9-month, promotable, clinical assistant professor position in Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences (ESHS) with a focus on health promotion. We are interested in candidates who view health holistically and complementary to physical activity, fitness, and human performance. Candidates with graduate training, expertise, and/or experience in physical activity and health, community health, and/or public health will be highly valued as we aim to recruit a dynamic educator to teach and develop undergraduate courses in health sciences. Expectations of the position also include mentoring, service, and scholarly outreach for the program, department, and university. The ideal candidate is also expected to foster collaborations across the university, and Idaho agencies and communities.
Unit/Department Summary
The Department of Movement Sciences promotes and advances careers in healthy active living, science, performing art, patient care, health promotion/education; and community-professional engagement through undergraduate degrees in Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences, Recreation, and Dance; and masters’ degrees in Athletic Training, Physical Activity Pedagogy, and Movement & Leisure Sciences. In addition, the department offers doctoral degrees in Athletic Training (DAT) and through the Ph.D. in Education, with emphases in Healthy Active Lifestyles and Exercise Science. Qualifications


Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications
Qualified applicants will provide evidence of:
  • MS or MPH in Health Sciences, Community and/or Public Health, Health Behavior, Exercise Science and Health or closely related field.  
  • Experience teaching in health sciences at University level in at least one of the following content areas: prevention; wellness; public and/or community health; health and/or behavioral assessment and intervention; and behavior change.
  • Experience with health education and/or health promotion programs.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to required qualifications, we are interested in candidates who have evidence of:
  • PhD, DrPH, DrHSc, or EdD in Health Sciences, Community and/or Public Health, Health Behavior, Exercise Science and Health or a closely related field.
  • A holistic view of health and health behavior;
  • Development of coursework (e.g., online and face-to-face) for undergraduate and graduate programs;
  • Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Excellent communication skills.
