Description

 
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Clinical Simulation Specialist to provide support for all facets of clinical simulation. This individual will provide technical support for all equipment used including computer software and hardware, patient simulators, task trainers, and audio-visual equipment and will perform routine maintenance when necessary. This person will function as a resource for faculty and staff training as well as student teaching. This position primarily reports to the Director of Clinical Simulation and the Associate Dean for Technology and Innovation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist simulation coordinators and instructors with planning, designing, implementing and running of simulation and skills lab events 
2. Understand the use and operation of different skills and simulator technologies ranging from anatomic task trainers to full body patient simulators. 
3. Provide technical expertise in simulation technology by programming, testing, and running scenarios; train facilitators, instructors and staff on running equipment as needed. 
4. Responsible for data collection, maintenance and reporting for simulation and skills events, equipment and supply inventories, student simulation evaluations, and clinical simulation documentation. 
5. Provide technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and their components to include recording and distributing audio-visual files for simulations. 
6. Install, configure and maintain software and hardware of simulation equipment and computer systems as well as patient simulators. 
7. Interface with equipment manufacturers for diagnosing and repairing biomedical, simulation and lab equipment; maintain record of repairs. 
8. Evaluate new equipment and identify opportunities for technology innovations and integration into healthcare education. 
9. Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies by attending technical training and simulation conferences. 
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary:  $42,210  -  $68,590)
 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in a technical related field and a minimum of one (1) year of experience.   Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirements.

The work of this position may require database management skills, some financial/budget experience, demonstrated knowledge of UAB specific policies and procedures.
This position prefers a strong working knowledge of APA formatting and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint applications. To be successful in this position the individual should possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. The individual must also have a strong work ethic and will be required to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and FERPA guidelines and policies.
