JOB SUMMARY :

Under direction from the Director of the Simulation Program, this position is responsible for operating the simulation lab in the Department of Pediatrics for residents, fellows, and faculty members. The Clinical Simulation Educator will also serve as simulator operator by programming, testing, and running scenarios with faculty instructors, while assuring that faculty and equipment are set up for sessions.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Work collaboratively with faculty and stakeholders to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate simulation-based education and events, learning objectives, case scenarios, program planning, evaluation tools and other needs for the Department of Pediatrics Simulation Program.

  • Participate in planning meetings to provide curriculum and learning objective expertise consistent with capabilities and limitations of the Department of Pediatrics Simulation Program, staff, equipment, and facilities.

  • Ensure appropriate fidelity and realism of simulation events including moulage, equipment, supplies, space, and furniture to meet simulation-based learning objectives and faculty needs.

  • Assist with set up of simulation scenarios and equipment and participate in preventative maintenance of equipment according to manufacturers’ recommendations and scheduled maintenance to ensure that equipment is operational.

  • Run high fidelity manikin sessions including simultaneous, multi-manikin sessions and multi station-task training ones.

  • Assist with teaching and debriefing of simulation sessions.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, and development of initiatives for the integration of simulation.

  • Facilitate training sessions for faculty, fellows, and residents as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate in a positive, professional manner with faculty, staff, learners, Department of Pediatric staff, and others to promote and advance the Department of Pediatrics Simulation Program.

  • Understand frequently used simulation scenarios.

  • Technical proficiency with basic aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement needs of simulation equipment.

  • Ability to work effectively in an ever-changing environment.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.

  • Ability to effectively develop and run simulation scenarios.

  • Ability to effectively apply adult learning principles to curriculum design.

  • Competent in using technology, including multiple computer platforms, software applications, and audio/visual methods for recording and editing.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Word.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree; 3-5-years clinical experience; Basic Life Support Certification, Registered Nurse Licensure

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master’s degree in education, simulation, healthcare or related discipline

  • 1-3 years health care education experience, experience in simulation as a teaching          

    methodology

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)
