Jobs in the Research Services careers family provide direct professional support of research activities.  Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Professionals at all levels are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the entry level , duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals and are performed in a training and development capacity. At the intermediate level , At the intermediate level, duties are less limited in scope and are performed independently with occasional guidance and direction from other professionals. At the senior level , work is performed fully independently.

Nature of Work

Clinical Science Professionals perform clinical research related functions which may include patient-oriented research or research conducted with human subjects. Patient-oriented research includes mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, or development of new technologies. Clinical Science Professionals may also assist with epidemiologic and behavioral studies and/or outcomes research and health services research.

The Colorado Center for Fetal Care is in search of a full-time (1.0 FTE) Research Services Professional for translational research work to include both clinical and benchtop science. Candidate will support multiple faculty members across various subspecialities in their clinical research as well as translational research that crosses both clinical and bench top science. Ideal candidate would have benchtop experience and be looking to expand their research portfolio into clinical research.

Job Responsibilities:

All levels, with increased independence through the senior level.

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

10% Research Administration

  • Collaborate with multiple PIs and Co-Investigators within the CFCC to be responsible for the complete project life cycle of clinical and/or translational projects within the group.  Be a point of contact for collaborating institutions for projects spanning multiple institutions.
  • Maintain and update a research tracking system to facilitate a organized study program management system for multiple PI’s across various departments and divisions.
  • Collaborate and be a source of knowledge for research fellows, residents, medical students, and interns who are participating in ongoing research studies within the CFCC. 

70% Clinical Research

  • Regulatory oversight for the CFCC research program and responsible for submissions to regulatory bodies (ie: IRB, CHCO, UCD, FDA, etc)
  • Create, maintain, and audit research databases in REDCap, Excel, OnCore, and EPIC
  • Perform specific study related duties based on approved protocols such as:
    • Interact with patients to complete informed consent processes.  This may require some travel across sites of care
    • Schedule subject visits and coordinate additional personnel required for study subject visit
    • Interact with patients to gather study-data, surveys, and or specimens
    • Extract data from patient charts (EPIC)
    • Performed other study related duties delegated by PIs
  • Developing and maintain research databases, including completion of all necessary research recordkeeping and documentation as well as timely data entry.
  • Collaborate with hospital and/or clinic staff to ensure study test and/or procedures are performed in a timely manner.  Build educational material as needed to mentor new clinical staff on study related tasks
  • Participate in regular research meetings (both clinical and bench meetings)
  • Prepare, track, and assist in completion in all submissions of confidentiality and clinical trails agreements in collaboration with post award at CHCO and Office of Grant and Contracts at UCD.  This includes Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), Data Use Agreements (DUAs), and other misc. regulatory document submissions.
  • Responsible for specimen collections, cataloging, and storage for studies related biorepositories.

20% Benchtop Research

  • Responsible for coordinating specimen collection, transporting, specimen processing for storage, and maintaining biorepository cataloging system.           
  • Processing of clinical samples such as:
    • Prep for histological staining in collaboration with UCD Histology Core
    • Cell culture prep and isolation of protein, RNA, and DNA for biorepository storage
    • Additional specimen processing based on specific protocol outlines
  • Point of contact for collaborators for sample request as well as shipping specimens
  • Coordinate downstream specimen processing and data collections with laboratory PRAS and research residents/post docs as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Entry Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis

Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • One (1) year clinical research or related experience

Senior Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • Two (2) years clinical research or related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with research databases (REDCap, Excel, OnCore, and/or EPIC)

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at:

Entry : $44,403 - 56,481

Intermediate : $48,321 - 61,464

Senior: $52,239 - $66,448

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
