Position Summary
Under the direction of the Principal Investigators (PIs) or Research Coordinator, individual will participate in clinical research study activities working with older adults and people with Parkinson’s; assist in recruitment, screening, and enrollment of appropriate participants into studies; perform a variety of duties involved in set-up, collection, documentation and reporting of research data. Contributes to adherence to study protocols and quality of information collected. Promote professional, ethical, and accurate conduct of study procedures.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participates in the recruitment of study participants as identified in project protocol including explanation of study to participants, screening for eligibility, enrolling and scheduling, and contributing to appropriate follow-up
  • Collects data from study participants, medical records, interviews, questionnaires, and other sources; enters data into study database; performs basic data quality evaluation and prepares appropriate reports and documentation as necessary
  • Completes necessary paperwork/documentation of all phases of study according to study protocol and assists in regular data checks to ensure accuracy, timeliness and completeness of data
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with all other study personnel and people at participating facilities on campus and in the community to ensure thorough and effective study implementation
  • Regularly attends all routine meetings and other meetings related to clinical research. Stays up-to-date of any information and any changes to study protocol. Assists in preparation of regular reports to study team
  • Communicates with research collaborators within and beyond Washington University to ensure intervention fidelity and standardization of procedures. Periodic conference calls with committee to discuss special cases or questions may be necessary. Participates in site visits, as needed. Participates and takes required test to exhibit proficiency.
  • Supervise exercise sessions of research participants, to include monitoring during graded exercise testing to determine maximal aerobic capacity and maximum heart rate, monitoring exercise adherence.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by research team.

Working Conditions

  • Travels and works on the medical campus, community exercise facilities, and participant homes.
  • Reliable means of transportation and schedule flexibility are needed for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field.
  • Experience in human studies, basic computer and software skills.
  • Proficiency in aerobic exercise testing.
  • Experience working with older adults and/or people with disabilities.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Highly organized and possess good time management skills. These skills are essential in order to have the ability to prioritize and handle a variety of responsibilities in a calm and flexible manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to interact and communicate professionally and respectfully in a team environment, with faculty, staff, students, research participants, and external customers.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and thorough and have the ability to work within a team and follow through on assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patients and patient records.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • Two years of administrative or research experience.
  • Associate degree or two years of college may substitute for experience.

Salary Range
$18.84 - $28.29 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
