Position Highlights

The Department of Emergency Medicine, Division of Emergency Medicine Services (EMS) is seeking a qualified individual to fill a Clinical Research Manager I position. This position will be responsible for managing ongoing research projects as well as quality improvement initiatives within the EMS Division. This is a hybrid position that will have a workspace assignment in the EMS Division office as well as in the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) Medical Section office.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and implementation of clinical research studies as directed by the EMS Division Chief. 
  • Manage EMS grants and contracts.
  • Plan and direct the work of three (3) EMS research staff members.  
  • Manage and oversee Clinical Trial patient screening, enrollment, and follow-up.  
  • Manage and oversee data entry. 
  • Provide guidance to research faculty and staff to ensure project completion.
  • Ensure ongoing project compliance.
  • Establish data use agreements. 
  • Complete Human Subjects Review Board applications for submission. 
  • Partner with SHARE Group to collect data.
  • Partner with research networks to provide requested data.
  • Partner with Arizona Department of Health Services to review data collection and data improvement processes.  
  • Develop data collection and reporting systems to facilitate the work outlined in EMS grants and contracts. 
  • Collect data from various sources such as cardiac monitors, EMS electronic patient care reports, and healthcare information exchange programs and convert them into usable reports.
  • Generate reports to present data using graphics and statistical analysis.
  • Provide reports to Medical Directors and stakeholders for review. 
  • Manage the continuous quality improvement process for various EMS agency contracts.
  • Manage the collection and reporting of EMS agency and hospital data for Medical Directors. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patient cases flagged for Medical Director review.
  • Pull cases and data files for Medical Director review.
  • Oversee the data exchange with Base Hospitals and the Administrative Medical Director team for index case review. 
  • Coordinate with EMS agencies to review cases in which shared patient care occurred.
  • Implement and integrate the TFD and Health Information Exchange system.
  • Facilitate weekly quality improvement meetings. 
  • Attend weekly EMS Division meetings.
  • Attend monthly EMS research meetings. 
  • Attend 75% of TFD medical section meetings in a calendar year.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Emergency Medical Services Data and Quality Management.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Medical Services Research and data collection.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete Human Subjects Review Board Applications.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis.
  • Ability to perform EMS data entry, analysis and reporting performed by internal and external partners.
  • Ability to manage the day-to-day work of staff, provides supervisory guidance and sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion.
  • Ability to partner with other areas for needs assessment, process improvements, recommended solutions, and implementation of programs/initiatives. 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. 
  • Three (3) years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current or prior EMT certification.
  • Current or prior Paramedic license.
  • Experience in medical data retrieval, compilation, and interpretation.
  • Experience in use of information systems, database management, data analysis and requirements for reporting, and a thorough understanding of the local EMS system.
