Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Kidney Center’s (UNCKC) mission is to cure kidney disease through discovery surrounding the pathophysiology and therapeutics of kidney disease as well as the development and assessment of kidney disease educational programs for North Carolinians and their primary care physicians. The UNCKC’s Kidney Education Outreach Program (KEOP) promotes increased awareness of personal risk factors for kidney disease and knowledge of the importance of maintaining kidney health. UNCKC research laboratories are funded through a variety of external sources, including NIH R01, T32, U01, R-41, R-44 and K23 awards. Epidemiologic and clinical research in areas including diabetic kidney disease, focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS), ADPKD, ANCA and Lupus vasculitis, literacy and health outcomes is funded through NIH, foundations, private donors and corporate grants.
Position Summary
The primary purpose of the position is to manage daily and long-term operations of several major research projects. The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will coordinate anywhere from four-six. These studies focus on kidney conditions and include clinical trials of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, observational studies, and patient registries. The CRC reports to the supervisor for instruction and supervision and also works alongside the investigators to troubleshoot and optimize study activities and goals. The position requires the planning, organizing, implementation, and evaluation of activities to bring research projects successfully to their completion. An important aspect of this position is the commitment of the UNC Kidney Center to the professional growth of the CRC.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidate must be a master multi-tasker with excellent attention to detail. Candidate must have excellent communication skills (written and oral) in order to obtain informed consent and explain research process and procedures. Candidate must be comfortable working in a team setting and interacting closely with physician-investigators, colleagues, and research subjects. Candidate must be able to independently manage regulatory documents including IRB protocol submissions, modifications and renewals. Candidate must be able to collect, process, and transport biologic specimens such as blood, urine, and saliva and must be willing to travel off site to outpatient clinics for subject recruitment and study visits. Candidate must have the ability to lead and update the exchange of research Information through conversation, instruction, and demonstration with the Investigators and others. Candidate must have the ability to contribute to the preparation of publications, reports, and other presentations of compiled study results. Candidate must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prefer candidate who Is familiar with clinical trials systems at UNC and Implementing research studies at UNC
(IRBIS, CTRC, CAMS, WebCIS/EPIC, etc.). Interest in learning phlebotomy, basic vital signs is a plus. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred but not required.
