Primary Purpose of Position
This is a time-limited grant-funded position on an incoming Department of Defense grant. The position holder will be a University of North Carolina at Charlotte employee, but be on-site at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) oversees and coordinates the daily activities of the research study, namely Piloting a Brief Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (BCBT) Group Intervention for Suicidal Behavior among active-duty military Personnel. The position holder assists in project planning and ensures that pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed. The CRC recruits and coordinates research participants, as appropriate, and serves as the principal administrative liaison for the project with military and academic team members. The CRC uses sound decision-making to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The CRC works closely with the clinical team members and investigators to ensure that all protocol-required procedures and study visits occur in accordance with protocol-specific guidelines. They assist with a development plan for resource allocation.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required in a field such as psychology, public health, sociology, statistics
  • Minimum of two-year clinical research experience
  • Human participants review board application experience
  • Survey and quantitative data collection methods experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Planning/organizational skills
  • Project Management experience and capabilities
  • Customer service skills
  • Computer Competency including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with data storage and analysis systems such as SPSS, STATA, etc.
  • Command of virtual platforms such as MS Teams, Zoom, etc.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Master’s degree preferred in a field such as psychology, public health, sociology, statistics
  • Prior military service and/or working with/in a military setting
  • Familiarity with the suicide prevention field
  • Prior experience working on a randomized controlled trial.
