Position Highlights

The Research Lab of Geoffrey Gurtner, MD, Chair of Surgery, and Kellen Chen, PhD, Assistant Research Professor (The Gurtner Lab) in the Department of Surgery is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator 1 to support the lab’s clinical research endeavors. Specifically, the Clinical Research Coordinator will be involved in the open Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) Master Protocol as a part of the multi-center Diabetic Foot Consortium (DFC) clinical trial. The candidate should have experience with consenting patients and managing patient data. The candidate preferably will have worked with biospecimens in the past (e.g., tissue, blood, urine, etc.).

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be well-organized, and be highly motivated. The candidate must be able to communicate well in English. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus. The candidate will work within a team of 3-4 other CRCs of varying levels to collect samples across the Banner Health System in Tucson, with most of the collection being either at the North or South campus. Occasional travel between the campus sites will be required on a day-to-day basis. The candidate must be able to work well both individually as well as with our extensive CRC team. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with promoting/recruiting research participants and retaining participants in long-term clinical trials ensuring potential participants meet eligibility criteria by communicating with the treatment team and/or investigator.
  • Obtain consent forms for approval by Human Subjects Panel. Maintain and update recruitment and screening materials, compliance forms, and tracking documents.
  • Under the direction of the PI and Senior lab members, assist with coordinating new protocol submissions, renewals, and revisions to Institutional Review Board for multiple studies.
  • Assist lab members with entering data and analyzing trends in recruitment.
  • Under direction of the PI and Senior lab members, assist with coordinating and carrying out daily operations including ordering/maintaining laboratory supplies/equipment.
  • Attend lab meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous lab experience.
  • Spanish fluency.
  • Experience working with biospecimens (e.g., tissue, blood, urine, etc.)
