HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant I to support the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation located at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. U.S. Citizenship Required.

The incumbent will perform data collection by conducting research interviews, recruit and screen subjects for research studies. Additionally, the incumbent will collect baseline and follow up data from subjects.

NOTE:  All HJF employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination or an approved religious or medical accommodation will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains database files and progress reports for studies, projects and programs. (10%)
  • Performs administrative duties such as: assisting in maintaining study database and files as well as scheduling study appointments; assisting in developing and submitting grants, papers and abstracts, manuscripts and presenting studies, developing protocol manuals and data collection instruments; participates in field visits. (10%)
  • Assists with the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations including editing and formatting documents. Distributes manuscripts and reports to all scientific collaborators as required. (10%)
  • Screens and assists with consenting study subjects and assists with processing lab specimens. (10%)
  • Assists with processing/shipping lab specimens (10%)
  • Interaction with study subjects, including screening, recruitment, and data collection. (50%)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
    • Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

    Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

    Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 0-2 years’ experience required.

    Work Environment:This position is 100% on site and has no teleworking capability.

    Background/Security:U.S. citizenship required; eligible to obtain and maintain a Tier III Investigation/ Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC).
