The Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of Pittsburgh is recruiting a Research Assistant for its Altoona location, for an exciting national program to recruit one million individuals to create a resource for researchers to develop more personalized approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The Research Assistant will work in multiple settings including dedicated enrollment clinics, physician practices, and hospital settings (outpatient/inpatient) and in community partner settings. The incumbent will interact with potential participants along the continuum of study enrollment – including engagement (explaining study basics to a potential participant), recruitment (scheduling and supporting completion of online informed consent and participant surveys), collection and processing of biospecimens (blood and urine samples), and documenting all activities. The ideal candidate enjoys interacting with diverse communities, is flexible, positive, friendly, and a team player with excellent communication and organizational skills.  
 
The Research Assistant will perform engagement, recruitment, collect biospecimens (blood and urine samples) and record and report data related to their activities. The incumbent will be assigned to a location area based on the program’s enrollment priorities. They will implement established protocol standards to assure all activities are performed per the study protocol. The candidates will routinely collect program metrics to support enrollment and inform program priorities.  
 
The All of Us PA Research Program is the local partner of the National Institutes of Health program.



Job Summary

Conducts research assessments and procedures. Recruits, screens, and enrolls eligible participants in studies; escorts participants to research scanning sites. Updates databases for registry assessments and clinical trial forms.


Essential Functions 

The position requires the ability to move around a clinic, operate a motor vehicle, maneuver fragile equipment and transport shipping boxes and reports (greater than 10 pounds), and assist with transferring patients from wheelchairs and stretchers. Must be able to use a computer and be familiar with web-based applications. Ability to be flexible in location assignments. Ability and judgment to interact and communicate appropriately with diverse participants. Incumbent is required to participate in face-to face or virtual meetings.


Physical Effort 

Position will require standing or sitting for work with reasonable mobility to navigate location site and clinical exam space. Sight and manual dexterity are required to handle and process biological specimens. Ability to move throughout campus to attend face to face meetings and/or participate in virtual meetings or lift reports weighting approximately 15lb.
