JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Clinical Research and Student Coordinator supports the daily operations and disseminates necessary information across the institution for students engaging in research activity on campus. This position will split its time 50/50 between logistical coordination of student activity relating to research and screening and consenting patients for prospective clinical research projects in the Department of Surgery. This position will serve as a liaison between students and the Graduate School of Medicine (GSM) research leadership. This position will perform duties needed to coordinate the logistical components of undergraduate student programs (Collmann Scholars & AACMSP) and connect students with research mentors and projects on the GSM campus.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Logistical Coordination Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with GSM research leadership to manage logistical components of the two GSM summer research programs (Collmann Scholars & AACMSP)
  • Reviews and manages student placement surveys for GSM undergraduate students, medical students, and GSM faculty/student request surveys.
  • Manages student-related research databases (undergraduate, medical student, research mentors).
  • Recruits campus faculty as mentors for students; serves as the first point of contact for student issues relating to research.
  • Attends monthly meetings and presents reports to GSM research leadership including new student inquiries, new faculty mentors, student progress, medical student research activity, and student/mentor issues.
  • Clinical Research Projects Responsibilities:

  • Screens electronic medical records (EMR) systems to identify appropriate study participants for multiple research projects in the Department of Surgery.
  • Conducts recruitment for departmental research projects by conducting EMR reviews and telephone recruitment calls and engage in campus-wide outreach.
  • Schedules patients for on-site study consultations for investigator-initiated research within the Department of Surgery.
  • Completes the consent process and provides accurate documentation.
  • Provides recruitment tracking and trajectory reports for study-specific protocols.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

    Qualifications

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:   

    EDUCATION:  High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

    EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience as an administrative assistant and research related experience in an academic setting.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of research protocols.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Highly developed planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Ability to work with diverse populations.
    • Experience performing literature searches and working with Endnote as well as RedCap, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Intermediate-level computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications for various electronic data capture programs.

     WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
