UI Health is seeking a qualified Clinical Practice Data Analyst Specialist (Cardiovascular Services/Abstractor) to join our Neuroscience department.  Using knowledge of medical terminology and cardiovascular disease processes and conditions, the Clinical Practice Data Analyst Specialist (Cardiovascular Services/Abstractor) provides expertise to acquire, abstract, manage, analyze, and generate data and information reports from medical records, clinical and financial/administrative databases, and other medical data for physicians, researchers, and external agencies with the goal of improving patient population health outcomes. The position coordinates all aspects of Cardiovascular data management, information management and database registries for the Cardiovascular Clinical Services team(s)

Under the general supervision of The Director of Clinical Services Integration and Operations, the Clinical Practice Data Analyst Cardiovascular Services/Abstractor performs abstraction of clinical/administrative data from electronic patient health records based on complex specific guidelines provided by internal and external agencies, accrediting.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Abstracts data from health records, reconciles data inconsistencies, defines criteria to locate and retrieve accurate information
  • Performs entry of clinical data into one or more electronic system(s)
  • Performs gap analysis for all new metrics, between specifications and design of the patient health record, and advises clinicians, administration, and information services on workflow changes needed
  • Have a significant and detailed understanding of all relevant all Cardiovascular Disease registries, their uses, impacts on payment mechanisms (example: value based / episodic payments models) and market place recognitions.
  • Works with physicians and staff to find information or pull specific charts.
  • Investigates causation of missing relevant data for completeness of abstraction requirements, collects follow-up data and corresponds with clinical and non-clinical staff about incomplete charts or data
  • Interacts with decision support and informatics staff to determine efficient capture and merging of information from optimal sources and access hospital and external agencies databases to generate reports and displays
  • Utilizes software to generate trended run chart displays and statistical process control charts.
  • Assists in analysis of data sets/reports, including interpretation of statistical trends and patterns of variation and implications for improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates and integrates efforts among team members within the department as well as multiple other departments and external agencies and vendors
  • Participates in education/training of individuals or teams on data analysis and interpretation.
  • Assimilates information on frequent changes to abstraction process and criteria, and communicates to all relevant stakeholders
  • Is able to participate in programmatic improvements by demonstrating an understanding of clinical workflows and holistic patient experience.
  • Performs other duties and required.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Information Management, Healthcare Information, Nursing, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, Management Engineering, Business or closely related fields or as required by the position to be filled in the area of specialization inherent in the position may be required.
  • One (1) year (12 months) of data management/analyst work experience in a clinical or healthcare related field.
  • **Applicants possessing a Master's degree, in a closely related field, meet the requirements for #1 above

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Highly prefer previous experience as a Registered Nurse with strong clinical workflow knowledge
    • Knowledge of process improvement methodology and tools
    • Knowledge of data collection methodology
    • Knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
    • Knowledge of common computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding. 
    • Project management and time management skills 
    • Strong Analytical skills 
    • Knowledge of basic statistical process control components 
    • Ability to learn and utilize new software applications for data entry and reporting. 
    • Must exercise integrity to protect patient confidentiality. 
    • Technical skills with database and coding software 
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing 
    • Attention to detail.
