Description:

The Clinical Practice Data Analyst (Clinical Research Financial Project Analyst) provides specialized analytical support for the UI Health Revenue Cycle, Clinical Research Finance Office (CRFO) in process improvement and optimization initiatives. Work assignments are complex requiring strong analytical, investigative, and evaluative skills and the ability to contribute to and provide accountability for managing/leading small projects or portions of projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, accessing databases, UI Health electronic health record (EHR) and utilizing reporting tools to extract data, generate reports, perform data analysis, and draft system/process improvement recommendations. Assignments may require interfacing with, gathering information from and making presentations to various operational areas of UI Health Clinical Research Revenue Cycle, the Offices of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR), and the UIC research community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a project coordinator and subject matter resource by providing guidance and problem/issue resolution to internal associates and the UIC research community on matters impacting projects and day-to-day assignments.
  • Ensures that activities are carried out in accordance with established timeliness and specifications; coordinates interdepartmental functions in order to minimize project delays or course correction when necessary.
  • Supports Revenue Cycle, Clinical Research Finance collaboration/initiatives with the OVCR and may meet with key stakeholders across the clinical research revenue cycle on a regular basis to review project status and develop future action plans.
  • Analyzes, evaluates and interprets data, processes, systems, policies, regulations and internal controls.
  • Conducts impact analyses and modeling, assesses trends, identifies risks, develops projections, determines opportunities and prepares detailed written summaries for management review and decision-making.
  • Utilizes business intelligence and desktop analytical reporting tools to access data, develop detailed standard and ad-hoc reports and summaries in order to support department, UI Health projects and initiatives which serve the clinical research clientele.
  • Participates in and serves as a subject matter resource in the development of process improvement initiatives which support business needs and enhance the performance of an operational area of Clinical Research Revenue Cycle.
  • Participates in defining project plans and goals; manages and/or leads small projects or portions of projects which support UI Health collaboration with the OVCR in its overall mission of a compliant clinical research program.
  • Conducts project workflow mapping, impact analysis, applies actions steps, provides routine status reports and keeps CRFO leadership apprised ensuring project plans and deliverables are met.
  • Assists in identifying operational and clinical research financial metrics and provides appropriate interpretation and application of data.
  • Assists with the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that provide clinical research financial, statistical and operational information.
  • Supports the standardization of reporting tools, policies, and procedures integral to UI Health Clinical Research Revenue Cycle operational needs in collaboration with the OVCR. Participates in the development and maintenance of standard data definitions and reporting requirements for research specific areas of the UI Health EHR.
  • Develops, manipulates and utilizes large data sets; conducts system/data integrity and quality checks/audits; accesses applications and utilizes relational database management or systems administration methods and practices.

Minimum Qualifications Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Information Management, Healthcare Information, Nursing, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, Management Engineering, Business or closely related fields or as required by the position to be filled in the area of specialization inherent in the position may be required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of CMS data requirements for core measures, meaningful use, and similar metrics
    • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Ability to learn and utilize new software applications for data entry and reporting
    • Experience with coordinating projects and team dynamics to successfully achieve team goals
    • Effective communication and  time management skills
    • Analytical problem solving skills with attention to details
    • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
    • Ability to work in a team environment providing support to multiple positions
    • Ability to resolve problems and complete assignments accurately and promptly
    • Experience working for or in support of academic clinical research finance operations
    • Epic research revenue cycle experience
