JOB SUMMARY

The Nursing Clinical Placement Specialist is responsible for managing the nursing clinical placements for the Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing in the Morrison Family College of Health. Primary responsibilities include relationship development and management with clinical placement sites and key internal stakeholders (School Director, Program Directors, SIM Center Director), oversight of student placements and clinical requirements for students and faculty, collaboration and support to the MFCOH compliance office and MFCOH faculty/staff, maintaining current knowledge of institutional and professional policies for clinical education, the development if educational materials for clinical education in the School of Nursing, and attending coordination meetings for clinical placements as needed. The Nursing Clinical Placement Specialist will serve as the liaison with clinical agencies and reports to the Executive Director, Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Clinical Placement

  • Develop and implement relationship management strategies with clinical placement partners to meet the needs of nursing with the direction and guidance of the school director. For example, identifies, develops, and maintains relationships with decision makers and coordinators in hospitals, clinics, and community-based settings. Works collaboratively with faculty and internal stakeholders to identify sites and preceptors. Initiates and manages the site request process. Develops presentations/leave behind materials describing the program to new potential partners.
  • Identifies and ensures compliance with onboarding and other requirements at each clinical placement site; requirements may include orientation, training, and documentation. Communicates requirements to faculty and students.
  • Identifies the number of student placements needed for each program in accordance with the curriculum and expected enrollment. Assigns clinical placements and determines clinical schedules for nursing students. Confirms placements with clinical educators and clinical placement coordinators in hospitals, clinics, and community settings.
  • Manages onboarding and ongoing requirements of students and faculty in clinical settings, including vaccinations, background studies, and orientation requirements. Documents and tracks the history of placements.
  • Maintains a clinical education manual outlining the mission, purpose, and objectives of the clinical partners as well as a description of all training policies and procedures for Susan S. Morrison School of Nursing faculty and partners. Updates and revises the clinical education manual with the feedback of faculty, students, and clinical sites.
  • Develops a strategy to regularly solicit input from key stakeholders and facilitates discussion about site evaluations, future clinical placement partnerships, and upcoming priorities and scheduling needs. Uses feedback to improve placements. 
  • Proactively communicates and serves as resource to faculty and students with questions of compliance with site requirements and expectations and coordinates shared scheduling with personnel from the Center for Simulation for clinical scheduling to optimize resource usage.
  • Serves as a representative of the School of Nursing at regional (and other) coordination meetings for clinical placements.

 

Affiliation Agreement and Contract Management

  • Initiates and drafts clinical affiliation agreements in collaboration with general counsel, director of nursing and finance and operation director.
  • Manages required clinical placement software platforms for the prelicensure programs, ensuring record keeping is complete and well documented.
  • Coordinates with the Compliance Office for routing and sign-off of affiliation agreements and database/spreadsheet maintenance as needed.

 

Curriculum and Program Knowledge

  • Maintains complete knowledge and understanding of programs to provide education and guidance about clinical placements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifies concerns related to clinical experiences. Routes those concerns to the appropriate decision-makers and stakeholders:  SoN faculty, Executive Director of Nursing, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborates with faculty and key stakeholders about student and clinical partner experiences to support students, clinical partners, and the learning objectives of the programs.
  • Interfaces with academic and operations partners to ensure a clear understanding of the programs.
  • Maintains current knowledge of university policies and practices concerning clinical education.

 

File Management and Accreditation Compliance

  • In collaboration with the Compliance Office, supports the creation and maintenance of records related to contracts, students, faculty licensure, policies, and other areas as needed for regulatory compliance.
  • Maintains database of clinical placement assignments, schedules, and required student and faculty documentation to include background checks and health records.
  • Prepares and submits annual and periodic reports relating to clinical placements.
  • Facilitate management of records needed for evaluation of programs.

 

Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree
  • Five years of experience in health and/or a regulatory/compliance setting
  • Professional level experience working with students, faculty, health systems, including representing an organization externally to community and clinical agency partners

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
