The Clinical Nurse II, Oncology is a Registered Nurse who delivers direct care to assigned Oncology patients in an ambulatory setting. Nursing care is delivered using standards of care by following approved policies and procedures. Applying appropriate decision-making skills, exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The Clinical Nurse II, Oncology establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assesses appropriately patient care needs and learning needs in routine oncology patient populations.
  • Reviews lab diagnostic data and incorporates in assessment.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) monitoring to maintain or improve care of Oncology patient population.
  • Plans patient care and education based on disease process, anticipated patient outcomes, complications of treatment, and psycho-social needs in collaboration with other healthcare team members.
  • Initiates and follows through with appropriate referrals to other interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in use of technical skills as required (i.e., IV therapy equipment utilization, universal precautions, body mechanics).
  • Establish IV access using peripheral or central catheters per protocol. Drug should only be prepared once an IV access is established and labs verified.
  • Administer IV therapy as ordered by MD.

Education:

Associate's Degree/College Diploma in Nursing required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.


License/Certifications:
  • Valid CA RN license required.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.

Experience:

Two (2) years of critical care experience (i.e.: ED, PACU, ICU, Cath Lab, IR) highly preferred. Excellent IV skills required. Chemotherapy infusion experience strongly desired. Oncology nursing experience preferred.
