Clinical Nurse II-Mohs Surgery

Job Summary:

The Mohs Surgery Clinical Nurse independently plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in the Mohs Ambulatory Clinic setting in accordance with the medical and nursing plans of care along with established policies and procedures. He/She provides nursing services to patient and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care for Mohs patients; intake & prep patients for Mohs layers and reconstructive surgery, assist providor with surgeries, provide patient education to patients and family members, post-op care to return patients, instrument processing, patient notification, tray prep, nurse triage.
  • Assess the environment and make recommendations to ensure optimal patient comfort, safety and compliance with various regulatory bodies; OSHA, JCAHO, etc.
  • Complete daily assignments for the completion of indirect patient care tasks required to support direct patient care activities. These tasks include but are not limited to; telephone messaging, cleaning and packaging instruments, room supply stocking/cleaning, uploading photographs in the photo database, upcoming surgery charts, and place orders as needed.
  • Able and ready to act as a nurse preceptor for new hires. Assist with new staff competencies and skills development as outlined in the unit specific competency based orientation checklists and policies & procedures.
  • Participate in your own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings. These items include; OESO/LMS trainings due in September, BLS, Nursing Licensure. This also includes attendance in the mandatory monthly Mohs staff meetings and nursing meetings.
  • Cultivate exemplary customer service throughout the organization; promote effective communication skills to include, but not limited to problem solving, assertiveness, and support for team members, feedback, active listening and conflict resolution.
  • Monitor clinic flow and identify measures to facilitate the movement of patients through all aspects of their visit. Inform HCA, NM or Nurse Team Lead of prolonged delay.
  • Collaborate together and with the NM or Team lead to restructure assignments in the event of staff “call-out’s” to maintain patient care and daily clinic operation.
  • Collaborate with clinic leadership to ensure equipment and supplies are readily available for patient care. Monitor supply and medication inventory. Ensure no medications or supplies are expired. Report and discard expired per policy. Alert specific personnel mentioned above when supplies are needed.
  • Recognize that our patients, families and coworkers have a sense of urgency and show them that we value their time, ensuring they never feel they are an interruption of our work, but rather the reason we are here.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Job Eligibility Requirements:

  • Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a managers discretion employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.

Job Schedule:

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
