Scope of Position

The James Oncology Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. The Oncology laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, blood gases analyzers and assists with bone marrow procedures. The lab provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students. The laboratory is staffed 24/7. In addition, staff is available for on-call for emergency bone marrow assistance.
Position Summary

The Lead Medical Technologist directs the daily operations and provides leadership within the Oncology laboratory. This technologist performs specialized automated and manual laboratory procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results, and is directly responsible for the technical quality of tests performed in the laboratory. Administrative duties include personnel evaluations, technical procedure writing/implementation, assisting with scheduling, training and record keeping. This technologist works under the direction of the division director and lab manager.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, Associates Degree or biological science degree with MT or MLT certification. Candidates must have 3 years of testing in clinical laboratory. Two years must be in the specialty.   Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and supervisory experience preferred. 

Ongoing: Maintains certification status: meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements.  Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
